Thank you neighbors - Tksgivng mugging at New York Dea
Hi, neighbors.
Around 1:40 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, I got mugged on New York Avenue at Dean Street. I screamed and chased the mugger down Dean Street. He got away with my purse with only a little bit of money and nothing else of value.
Thank you, neighbors, for waking up and calling 911 when you heard me screaming. The police said they got several calls.
Also, a special thank you to the woman who ran out of her brownstone and chased the mugger two blocks in her pajamas! You are a superhero and I wish I knew who you were so that I could I thank you.
And another special thank you for the fellow who took me in and let me use his phone to call my friend.
And thank you police, for coming so quickly! You did a great job helping me.

I personally would not walk around near Dean St. and New York Ave. at 1:40am alone without some sort of deadly weapon on me.
But hey, that's just me. *shrug* -
so sorry to hear what happen, thank god that you are okay.
-
The best thing about this post is that it proves that people aren't just letting shit happen. Longtime res or not. Just come out in pjs when shit is going down, that is great. THAT is community. Great story, also great neighborhood, if you ask me.
-
And also disproves the notion that one needs a deadly weapon around here. Walking around here late at night may not be wise, but hey, we got your back.
-
Probably the biggest problem with NY Avenue is that there is little pedestrian traffic late at night. Generally I prefer to walk on Nostrand Ave late at night where there's more foot and auto traffic and save NY Avenue for the daylight hours.
-
The OP may very well live on or near that block and sometimes you're going to end up outdoors late at night near your apartment. Let's not blame the victim here, okay?
-
So sorry that happened but so glad folks helped out. And the woman who chased the mugger in her PJs, ROCK ON
-
i would have a lot more respect for the mugger if he stood his ground and fought the muggee. but in stead he ran away like the punk BITCH that he is.
-
Yeah, because it's such a good idea to support the assaulting of people late at night. Go muggers, go muggers, go muggers! We want you to win back to steets of Crown Heights for us!
Are you nuts?
Way to go PJ lady, and Lee Ho, I have to agree; responding to commotion as it's happening is community.
Since when is it okay to chastise people for walking home at night? [/i] -
praise God that you're alive and that all you lost is your purse & some cash.
do you live near ny & dean? if so, is there a block association? -
Wow. That's amazing - and doesn't it make you want to do the same now if you hear something? You probably remember which building she ran out of in her PJs no? Could you go back to the building? Ha - I'd go with you - this lady deserves applause!
-
The block is part of Crown Heights North, which is a very strong block association.
Howdy, Stranger!
