Change of Address with Post Office — Brooklynian

Change of Address with Post Office

We moved recently and put a forwarding address request in prior to the move. The problem we're having is the mail is not being delivered at either address. Does anyone know how long it takes for a change of address to be processed? I moved quite a few times out west and never had a delay like this.

  • Ugh. I hope this doesn't happen to me. I put in my change a week ago, and have both places until Friday.

The good news is that I will have the same mail carrier as I did before, so he should be able to intercept and properly deliver stuff....it's the Van Brunt station that I worry about
  • Oh - I bet yours will go smoothly having the same mail carrier. I figured it would take some time to get the forwarding going, but I assumed the mail would be going to the old place not disappearing completely. We are now closer to the Van Brunt station - I bet that's the problem. . .
  • i'm so glad i'll never have to spend a saturday at that post office ever again.
  • welcome to park slope
  • It could take quite a while. We moved zip codes in Brooklyn last year and it was a mess. We got mail at both places for a few weeks (no mailboxes at the old places so the neighbors kept it for us to pick up). After several calls and hours on the phone about the change, we got no mail at either place for several weeks. Then after more calls (that I think didn't do much more than really piss me off) we seemed to be getting most of our mail here.

We went to visit the old neighbors almost about 5-6 months after I requested the address change and there was still new mail for us at the old place.

Before you move, make sure to notify important places of your address change. Let your bank, bills, paychecks, family and such know your new address. Magazines can take a lot longer to change so call and do that at least a month in advance if possible.
