Tawana Brawley's 20th Anniversary — Brooklynian

Tawana Brawley's 20th Anniversary

Subject: Tawana Brawley's 20th Anniversary

From Stanley Crouch in today's Daily News:

"Not one of the three militant stooges can be forgiven.
We should not be shocked that Glenda Brawley wants to come back to New York to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her family's most infamous hour. She and her husband, Ralph King, the convicted murderer, are demanding that Gov. Spitzer and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo relinquish Glenda Brawley's arrest warrant and reopen the case!
"New York State owes my daughter. They owe her the truth," said Glenda Brawley.
Is that so?"

Any feelings about this?

This could be troubling for Pagones as he may have to pay back the $65,000.00 $harpton had to borrow from Percy Sutton to settle the slander law suit he lost
( like thats going to happen)

It's been rumored she is coming back to Brooklyn To promote her book

-Rolling In Feces, for Fun And Profit-
  • I actually had the chance to meet her several years after the incident occurred. She was a student at my college and was befriended by several people I knew. At the time she seemed like a pretty nice kid, very quiet and reserved. Last I heard, she had graduated, got her degree in nursing and was working and raising a family. From all I understand she tried to live a life that's geared towards helping others and stay out of the spotlight. I think she deserves to be judged on what she's become and not what she was involved in as a sixteen year old.

Did she ever apologize for the grief she caused Steven Pagones or to the community she humiliated?
That is what she should be judged by.
  • I have no idea if she ever apologized to Steven Pagones. Do you?

Frankly I would much rather someone live a sincere life than deliver an insincere apology. But that's just me.
  • she didn't pay the guy according to wiki:

Pagones had also sued Brawley. She defaulted by not appearing at the trial, and the judge ordered her to pay him damages of $185,000. As of 2003, none of the award had been paid.

maybe after she paid and publicly apologizes than sure why not forgive. al sharpton still hasn't publicly apologized either.

probbably not gonna happen, more from wiki:

    Maintaining innocence

Brawley maintains she did not invent the story, and she still has supporters.[10] In November 2007, Brawley's mother and stepfather, in a 20th anniversary feature for the New York Daily News, said, "We should be millionaires." and they would like New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Governor Eliot Spitzer to reopen the case. They said that Brawley, who has converted to Islam and initially changed her name to "Maryam Muhammad" (Her legal name is now "Tawana Thompson"), will speak at any legal proceedings. [11]

If she did her and her mother would not have suddenly moved to Virginia to avoid outstanding grand jury subpoenas for refusing to testify.
We all live by our own standards, to accuse falsely, I feel is not living a sincere life.
But we all have our own standards.
  • It sounds like she's trying to lay low while her parents are going "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!"

Makes me suspect that she was perhaps put up to this stunt by her money-grubbing parents. It's not the sort of thing a kid would come up with on her own.

I suspect she changed her name to avoid association with her parents as well as with the scandal.

When her Mom took her to Virginia they left with $300,000.00 which was in a defense fund they had received from concerned citizens.

I guess Moms is looking for more.

I wonder how $harpton feels about having to revisit this.?
