16th Street condos? — Brooklynian

16th Street condos?

Anyone know anything about the condos going up on 16th St, just off Seventh Ave? The units are trickling onto the market, via Corcoran's website. We went to an open house and the units look quite nice.

Anyone have any opinions about that area? (Opinions, on this site? ) Retail seems to be creeping further and further south on 7th Ave and 16th St still feels like Park Slope to me.

  • I've been watching those go up for a long time

They had an open house recently and I went in to see. They're nice, but no bathtub in the 2 units I saw - just showers. I need a tub!

I think the general location is fine, but there's something a bit shady about that block. PM me and I'll tell you more

I like the neighborhood (I live there). I lived there 20 years ago too. I'm trying to think of something shady about the block but can't think of a thing. The neighbors are very nice, they all know each other and the side streets on that block are really nice to walk up.
  • Btwn 6th and 7th? Or 7th And 8th on 16th St?

If it's ANYTHING below 7th Ave, STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY.

The neighborhood is wonderful, but the level of legit/legal/safe development projects in the area is next to zero.

Buyer beware. If you have the exact location, PM me and I'll fill you in pro or con.
  • Thanks all. Flexi and Lost: I've pm'd you for more info. I actually think the block is alright... Jackson Place, in particular, has some great wood frame homes. There's a ton of new dev below Sixth Ave... "Suite Sixteen" (the worst name for a building ever) and a few others. Drove by last night and all seemed pretty quiet and normal.
  • LostInGreenwood is right about the building (and all of the buildings in this area). I've been watching it go up. I'm not so sure about the quality and it does look strange on that block of mostly two family homes!!!

    I have always loved Jackson.
  • to those I have PM'd let me add that Jackson & Webster Place are GREAT! As are the residents of the South Slope who have endured untold shit for the past 4 years from all the developments...not to mention my area.

Not all developments, nor their developers, are "bad." We need new/more housing in Bklyn, but there are better ways to increase density without ripping the heart out of a neighborhood in the process.

16th St. is a classic example of rampant over development gone awry when the market was hot.

    Buyer beware.
  • 16th St is crazy. Particularly between 5th and 6th and I think 4th and 5th. This is the first ugly building between 6th and 7th. Not sure what they are putting in the hole on Jackson either.

There are some empty ugly overpriced buildings up your way too, she noticed!
