Is Tempo Presto on 7th Closing?

I saw a "For Lease" in the window of Tempo Presto's 7th Ave. location yesterday. Does anybody know if and/or when it's closing?

  • Ah-that stinks! Love their sandwiches. I am starting to think that site is cursed.

Wish we could bring back Herzog's Deli -that was the best deli around!
  • I was told by a reliable source that it was, but the sign in the window would seem to be a clincher.
  • The sandwiches were pretty good there, but not amazing, especially considering that they weren't cheap. And it's a fairly large space that's almost never full. I just hope it doesn't hurt Tempo's bottom line to the point where it could put the main restaurant in jeopardy, because I love that place (especially the buccatini with pistachio pesto).
  • I don't think the site is cursed - the Carvel was there for a long time and it was always popular with the PS 321 crowd. Maybe the neighborhood didn't have the need for yet another upscale food purveyor.

its not the place. its Michael Fiore. he brought down both Cucina and TP. Hopefully he will let the dream go and find another venue to torture his employees. I say good riddance.
  • Yeah-but the Carvel still closed down. I guess i still miss some of the old places
  • It never was as interesting or inviting as their small 5th Ave location - the space was badly designed and poorly utilized - the seating area inside was really unappealing.

But their fennel sausage sandwich is a gift from the gods!

The indoor seating area has always been a problem with that location. I loved the hot cocoa at Carvel and got it often, but I never wanted to sit there unless I could sit outside. I don't think it's the decor so much as the way the building is arranged. So maybe LongTimeSloper is right - the place may be cursed.

I actually thought the location on the other side of 3rd was cursed. So many restaurants came and went there! But Miracle Grill seems to be going strong....
  • This can't be right!
We haven't yet heard from The Oracle of Third Street.
    In the third person.
No peep from her, no sealed deal.
  • I remember when that spot was a Ben's of Soho Pizza place... Mmmmmm. Their deep dish garlic, onion and tomato pizza is to die for.
  • Ben's of Soho was good in the beginning, but, I remember when they started going downhill. You would go in there and the place was dirty and it always smelled smoky. it was very disappointing because the pizza had been so good at first!

Again, bring back Herzog's! I can't be the only person here who remembers it!

'Ol Blue remembers - and we need a good sit-down deli. The closest we have is La Bagel at President w/a couple of uncomfortable stools. Somebody please copy Canteen and put it in Tempo's 7th Ave space.

  • Agree, Herzog's was wonderful.

Herzog's was great. They used to have really good ice cream on soft serve. Definitely miss those days.
