Stereo repair?
Fortunately, my move suffered only one fatality (a vase) and one injury - my stereo receiver. I plugged it in and it played about three songs before the lights went out and nothing resumed. The electricity circuit between the receiver, wall and CD player is working.
Does anyone know where I can take my Sony stereo receiver circa 1994 for repair? Thanks!

Unless it's a fuse, it doesn't make financial sense - it's out of warranty and most techs will charge a bench rate of 100/hr to fix it, plus parts...

it's probably cheaper to just purchase new at this point. We looked into having our stereo repaired a year ago and it just wasn't worth it.
You can try calling J&R on 7th Avenue and see what they say. they repair RVs, stereos, etc.. -
sounds like a fuse. Try that $5 fix, if not forget it

I totally agree with the replace it idea. The only stereo reciever that I kept going for decades has been a heathkit from 1969 that I built. the parts remained available if it was fixable by me and a troubleshoot by Heathkit and fix was reasonable. Right now it isn't quite working but I might have it fixed for sentimental reasons and it sounds good. But in the present era.... cheaper to start again.

Oh, one other suggestion on the replacement front - look in to a less mega-mass-market manufacturer. If you look, you can find something in about the same price range that'll have very few bells and whistles but with better build and sound quality... not that I'm an expert or anything... oh, wait...

Gosh it would be unfortunate to replace it. I am going to call J&R. Thanks!

Update-- I am happy to report that J&R was able to fix my lovely receiver for $40!!!!! They took a $20 downpayment and said if it would cost less than $95 to fix it they would go ahead. If it was going to cost more, they would call me.
I hooked it up last night and blasted some Ella. WHOO HOO!!!!!!! -
love J&R! congrats!
