A Train Beatdown Video — Brooklynian

A Train Beatdown Video

Just saw this online, thought I'd post it.
DECEMBER 5--A group of teenage girls menaced a male subway rider before attacking him as their train pulled into a Brooklyn station, a violent assault videotaped last month by a high school student who, of course, immediately uploaded the clip to YouTube. The 4:18 video, which you'll find below, was shot on the A train as it traveled in Bedford-Stuyvesant (subway ads and the train's stops indicate that the footage was shot late at night several weeks ago). The video was uploaded to YouTube on November 7 by Kadejra Holmes, a high school student and aspiring Harlem filmmaker.
In a brief online chat, Holmes denied being part of the girl gang that attacked the male rider, who appeared to be about 30. Minutes after being asked by TSG about the train video, Holmes, 17, deleted the footage (and her entire page) from YouTube. As seen in the clip, the group of girls taunted and threatened the seated male rider as the train moved from the Ralph Avenue station to the Rockaway Avenue stop. As members of the group inched closer--and threatened to strike him--the man remained calm, asking the girls, "Why are you arguing? Please stop, stop." As the train pulled into Broadway Junction, a girl off-camera could be heard predicting, "They gonna hit him, I know it." Within moments, the man, who had stood up, was shoved down and pummeled by members of the gang.
As the tape ends, the victim--who was also struck in the face with a plastic soda bottle during the assault--is continuing to be struck by two of the girls.
When she posted the video, Holmes titled it, "jump up to get beat down," an apparent reference to "Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down," an old single by Grand Nubian. The 1992 cut's video featured members of the rap group throttling various unfortunate opponents, two of whom get their bloody comeuppance in a subway car.

  • yeah I saw this. The audio I saw was pretty bad so I couldn't tell if the guy was mouthing off or starting trouble (not to say that he deserved what happened if he had been screwing with the girls).

Kids today (i'm now a 100 years old).

Did he swing though, even after the attack began? Remarkable restraint if he didn't.

He attempted to bat one of the kids away. Don't think he swung at any of them though, which is good for him- fighting back often escalates these types of things.

Where's bernie goetz when you really need him. :P
  • Hamilton...

I'm beginning to think you're a member of the Aryan Nation, seriously.

On this thread... Bernie Goetz? Are you crazy?

On another thread... Social misfits "crawl" out of Bishop Ford High School... Trudge along the avenue "babbling ebonics"... Wow... You really have some issues.

These are kids. Kids do stupid things, especially when they're in a group. Some people speak a certain way among social peers and different way in other circumstances.

What are you doing still living in the neighborhood anyway? Move to Idaho... or Bensonhurst or Douglaston... Anywhere but my neighborhood.

Between this and the C train thread I am wondering the same thing. Why IS Hamilton still here?

Kids are kids, what are you going to do? If it annoys you so much then either avoid the trains and errand-running in the after-school hour or two or, better yet, become involved and campaign for some good after-school programs that will keep these kids from idling in the neighborhoods.

Or are you a not-in-my-backyard type? Schools are great and everything... just not in MY neighborhood?

Carlton, if you check Hamilton's profile, I'm not so sure he is in this neighborhood; he seems to wander around posting dopey little cracks all over these fora.

He could just be someone who's really bored at work and is a little too lazy to think of a more creative way to goof off; in other words, really not worth the energy you're spending getting this upset over him, IMO.

Just let it roll, he ain't worth it.
  • Not that this is the most important thing, but it's Brand Nubian, with a B. And I doubt teenage girls of any sort know who that is.
  • That seemed so staged to me. He had soo many opportunities to leave the subway car and the train did stop at a station and noone got on.YEah ok. They are thinking it was this amateur filmmaker taping it.Some of those "girls" looked like boys.Anyway,,if it isnt fake I hope he is ok and they catch the idiots.

If you had programs in your neighborhood they would't act that way in mine.
Why should any neighborhood be required to stay in doors ,or as you put it avoid errand- running during the after school hours.
You probably think it's ok to block entrances of buildings and inconviencing residents try to enter the building that they live in

They probably idle in my neighborhood because they are afraid to be in theirs.

It's the norm to tell people they should accept anti social behavior because KIDS WILL BE KIDS and if you don't accept this behavior your a racist.

I'm not an in my backyard type, just don't find their behavior and attitudes acceptable or should I have to take over the responsiblity for their behavior

By the way who cares what you and these other apologist think and are quick to call everyone who voices an opinion a racist..
  • And y'all think that's authentic?
  • I'm sorry but that Bernie Goetz remark was funny. Lighten up, folks.

like assault & battery? hmm, i don't think that's reeeeeeally what you meant was it?

kids being rowdy? of course. i get it. most of us were rowdy back in the day.

kids being violent? that's unacceptable, no matter where you are. there is absolutely nothing anyone can say which will convince me that this was simply a matter of "kids being kids".
  • See article in today's Daily News re: father's response and they also have the video posted online (www.nydailynews.com -- sorry I don't know how to create that direct link from here).

I hadn't seen the video before and it's bizarre to me. My experience is that most people who see this kind of trouble on the train get up and change cars. The whole videotaping aspect itself is suspect. It looks fake until the actual beating -- the way one girl was yelling "get off" during the beating seemed genuine.

I wish we knew the real story. But I have worked with teenage girls in the past and they can be frighteningly vicious.

  • Sorry... I've been crawling around on my stoop, babbling ebonics, threatening people as they walk by most of the day.

Hamilton I don't care what you say. I may comment on some of your more ridiculous/delusional/racist posts... Remember when you were on the subway and punched a mugger in the face then picked up his gun and threw it in the gutter because you figured the cops couldn't pull any good prints? Or the one detailing all your experiences with Black people... They were always trying to rob you (except of course the good Blacks that worked for you)... Hilarious.. Those two actually made me laugh so I didn't comment.

In my opinion you are most likely a flamer who's bored and likes to make up stories but this is America and you're entitled to your opinion/version of reality. It's good to know there are people like you out there. Makes me realize just how far we still have to go.

It would probably help if you could read something and understand what was written. one example is I never stated everyone was trying to rob me.
the rest of your gibberish is the ranting of a racist asshole

Who's the flamer with the name Carlton Banks, did you really name yourself after a kid on tv .

[talk about thing that make people laugh]
Get a handle on yourself as everybody is on to you.
  • Kids will be kids? What kind of an excuse is that?

If this had been a group of white kids assaulting a black person, you'd all be crying racism and calling for Al Sharpton or Charles Barron to intervene.
  • Here's your post... Verbatim...

    Quoting Hamilton...
"I would like to share my Black experiences with you.

    1) My older son slashed by a deranged black.

    2) My younger son[ 11years old] was holding his brothers radio when a 19 year old black rode up on a bike and asked where 9th st. was,as he turned to direct him,he was punched in the face and as he desperatly held on to the radio the
punk put a knife to his neck and pulled the radio from his hands ,that was the bad news here comes the good news . My son hailed a passing Police car and had this asshole arrested. I hope his 9 months at Rikers was enjoyable.

    3) My wife was robbed while shopping on Fulton St.

    4) On a saturday after working half day I entered the train station at Wall&William St .As i passed through the turnstile i spotted a black standing by the stairs, thinking nothing of it i went to the lower level to catch a train.
There was a middle aged couple waiting on the platform, i walked about twenty feet passed them ,at that point i was approached by the black with a gun in his hand, he raised his hand and blurted"give it up" I told him you must be a moron there's a cop right behind you [there wasn't] he turned and said what you talking about,I repeated there's a cop behind him and when he turned his head this time I knocked the gun from his hand and hit him with a left hook knocking him on his ass. As I picked up the gun he flew up the stairs and on to the street.
I didn't call the cops because he was probably half way across the Brooklyn Bridge by the time I exited the station to try to locate him..
Did this make me a racist,no, it just made me distrustful ."

I'm pretty sure each of your experiences (at least as you described it) were Black people trying to steal from you. These are your words, not mine. You say you aren't racist, but distrustful. If you saw me on the street you would distrust me, simply because of the color of my skin. What does that make you if not racist? Now I'm also fairly certain my English skills are superior to yours so I'm not quite sure how my posts can be construed as gibberish. Lastly I challenge you to find any evidence of racist comments on my behalf. As for my name, if you really were in Fort Greene and familiar with the neighborhood you'd recognize the play on words...

'A' train video poster has subway history

BY ALISON GENDAR, JOE GOULD and CORKY SIEMASZKO

Debbie Rivera and Kadejra Holmes, who allegedly posted A train video, were busted in September train assault.

Debbie Rivera and Kadejra Holmes, who allegedly posted A train video, were busted in September train assault.

If you know anyone who appears in this video, please email [email protected].

The Harlem teenager who posted the shocking A train beatdown video is not just a budding filmmaker - she's a girl who's gone wild on the subway before.

Kadejra Holmes, 17, was busted with a buddy in September on charges of slugging a woman on a Manhattan-bound J/M/Z train, police sources said Thursday.

That buddy, whom cop sources identified as Debbie (Mookie) Rivera of Brooklyn, appears briefly in a pink coat in the violent video of a straphanger being beaten by teenagers that has outraged the city.

"I'm not going to tell you the story of everything that happened," Rivera, 14, told a Daily News reporter Thursday in her father's presence. "I had a hard day. I already told the police everything. You can ask them."

The Manhattan woman who says Holmes and Rivera assaulted her Sept. 3 was eager to talk about her brush with the teen terrors - as long as her name wasn't published.

The 24-year-old woman, who works in finance, said she was heading home from Brooklyn after visiting her parents and was waiting for the train at the Lorimer St. station when Kadejra and the younger girl Kadejra referred to as her "significant other" began jawing at her.

"She has the kind of mouth that will just go off," the woman said. "I ignored her. I finally said, 'I keep to my own business.'"

The verbal barrage continued after they boarded and when the train began crossing the bridge to Manhattan, "the woman and her friend attacked me."

"They were just looking for some action, that's how I viewed it," the woman said. "People quickly pulled them off me. They only attacked me for a couple of seconds before the train stopped at the next station. I called cops from my cell phone."

Holmes and Rivera were arrested at the Delancey St. station in Manhattan and charged with misdemeanor assault. Both were given desk appearance tickets, police said.

The NYPD still isn't saying whether the footage that Holmes posted on YouTube last month was a hoax - or the real deal. They said the videotaped victim has not surfaced or filed a complaint with police.

Meanwhile, officers were spotted questioning teenagers getting on and off at the Broadway Junction station - where the train was pulling in when the victim in the videotape was pummeled.

Holmes, who met with lawyers Thursday, couldn't be reached for comment. Her parents insist she did not take the footage or join in the beating.

William Bastone of The Smoking Gun Web site, which first noticed the violent video, said Kadejra told him she made the mayhem-filled minimovie but insisted she did not beat on the man.

The video begins with a pair of foul-mouthed girls taunting the sitting straphanger, who acts like a gentleman and tries to calm them down.

As the confrontation escalates, the camera moves to Rivera and the person taking the video asks, "Do you have something to say about this?"

Rivera appears nervous as she shakes her head no. A short time later, the man is seen covering his head to ward off the blows of the teenagers bearing down on him.

"She was just sitting there, she didn't do anything wrong," her father, Felipe Rivera, said. "I saw the video on the news last night. There were a lot of people sitting there. I didn't like what they did to that man. It was wrong."

Asked about Holmes, the elder Rivera scowled and said, "She doesn't come around here anymore."

The statement that if I saw you on the street I would distrust you because you were black[do you really know what people are thinking] that is a statement of a paranoid person and I think you should seek help, before you become the next Colin Ferguson.

The fact that I do have Black friends is not acceptable to you as it doesn't fit you agenda.

The incidents I described are the truth and if you don't believe it,so what.
  • I think this whole "Kids will be kids" perspective is really an expression of veiled hostility or stylized cowardice - it's not tolerance. Aberrant behavior (assaults, harassment etc) should not be dismissed as child-like behavior, because it's not normal, child-like behavior - it's abusive and sociopathic - and to justify completely abnormal behavior as normal speaks volumes about its defenders. The type of "kids" being defended here are people-shaped animals and antisocial mental cases with a blatant disregard for others....how this can be defended by anyone who has children or loved ones is beyond me.
  • Another thread that has reached the point that we all knew it would inevitably get to. Now it needs to die a quick and pain-free death so that the rest of us don't have to suffer from it any longer.
