  • Yeah, that was me. And Ripley who sounds like a demon when she plays, crazy dog. I still can't get over how soft Stringer's fur is, she's such a cutie! And she got my old man Cheech to play with her a little, he usually only plays with Ripley now so it was nice to see.

When I walk them at night I avoid Dean between Classon and Franklin because it's not really residential and not well lit. Pacific between Franklin and Bedford has the 2 shelters so it can be a bit sketchy at times. St. Marks between Franklin and Classon is another stretch that's a little too dark and desolate for me. I'm sure there's more but I'm sick now and I had my last wisdom tooth removed yesterday so I'm a bit out of it. I do walk them up Dean to Bedford then down Bergen or down Bergen to Classon then up Prospect to Franklin at night. Those routes have been okay.

One thing I think is in my favor is that I'm kind of easily recognizable and I talk to a lot of people around here. Even the so called undesirables. I also make a point of walking the dogs around certain areas during the day so people will see that I have them. I feel that the more people around here see me and get to know me a bit then they'll be less likely to mess with me.

This board is a good resource too, sort of like old Brooklyn when people talked to their neighbors. Well, I'm off to walk the dogs and find some drinkable food. Welcome to the board!
  • thanks again. i'll have to set up a username.

    see you around the neighborhood!
  • i have lived in ny my whole life in nyc and in the 70's there was something called "the mugging hour":
basically when it was getting dark, people were coming home from work, school, with packages, fumbling for keys, etc.
someone comes up behind them and...
    and then it stopped

this was all over manhatten (possibly elsewhere, i was a little young to be aware of the entire city) and some blocks hired private guards.
no, i am not suggesting that for CH but if this problem persists
(and i see no reason why it won't)
WE are going to have to get together, block by block and do something about it (or live with it)

I am thinking things like block watches, getting the fronts of houses better lit, etc.
and yes, letter writing campaigns (it's not too late, send yours in)

to this end i will try to put together my thoughts about last night's precinct council meeting where this issue was discussed
and i will humbly suggest that those in the Crow Hill area come to our December/Holiday meeting next tuesday (http://www.crowhillcommunity.org )
or email us ([email protected] ) to be on the public safety committee
(which will entail attending to meetings to address this issue and helping to implement solutions)

    or get a dog
    or don't do anything.

and a bravo to nick for taking back the street!
