  • 8 years in NYC, all in Park Slope.

Wifey and her family have been here 15-20 years
  • 7 months.

North Carolina transplant because of a job and overall boredness with the south.

oh and I was tired of xenophobia towards newcomers/transplants...

    haha
  • Since birth...44 years.

Born and raised in Bronx, lived in Queens 12 years, Manhattan 17, now BK for 4.

    I believe in Santa!
    :D
I've been here all of my 24 years.

People, don't just look at the thread, or fight on the thread.
    Answer the poll!
    THX!

Maaaaaybe Brooklynian is just the same 60 people viewing each thread 10 times, but I doubt it.

Remember that unregistered guests actually outnumber registered users at times, and guests can't vote in polls.

Just a thought: The low response rate may be due at least in part to the fact that this is only on the PS board.

If a thread is worth checking out, I'll hit it more than a few times over it's lifespan.
  • This was also on a previous thread a while back, but to repeat a previous post.
My family as been in Park Slope since 1929.
I was born in Bay Ridge in 1966. But have lived and worked here for my whole 41 years.
My father, George, was born in 1936 at the old Garfield hospital that's now condo,s. He's still going strong.
  • good points, all
the other thing is that sometimes people just don't *like* polls
    which is fine too

I was just noticing that this one was getting exponentially more looks than responses.

And I see we're running around a third long-timers. It doesn't *mean anything*, just anecdotally inneresting.
    :D
p.s. I'm counting "more than 20 years" as longterm. It's more like half the respondents that are "over ten years."
  • Born and raised here -

    20 years on Wyckoff Street
    15 years on 46th Street
And now 4 years on Underhill where I will stay!
  • Ten years in February, all in Brooklyn. I never really wanted to live in Manhattan - it's way too crowded.
  • I've lived in NYC since birth in 1954. I moved to Park Slope in 1977 and bought my house in 1983.

My parents were both born in Manhattan. On my dad's side the family was in Manhattan since the early 1800's. My mother's father came over from Italy in the 1870's, her mother in 1905.
  • Man, I realized after my post that I completely skipped over the years I lived on the other side of the river. I can't even remember the name of the place.
  • All of my life. I was born and raise din Queens. Lived in Manhattan for 5 years. Have lived in Brooklyn for the last 9 years. I'm 33 years old.
  • 8 years in NYC.

    3 years in Windsor Terrace.
    3 years in Park Slope.
2 years in Prospect Heights, as of next month.

I'm hoping that we'll be able to afford to stay, once we grow out of our apartment in a year or so*. Bleh. :(

*- due to the arrival of Baby MeganLibrarian in April.
  • made my Brooklyn debut in Greenwood Heights last October. after the landlord decided a ridiculous increase in rent was in line, i moved in with my friend in Fort Greene. so yes I'm a dreaded n00b.
  • well...1 summer in Manhatten (NYU area)
    1 summer in Astoria

    - Ahh, yes, then back to New Jersey... the "other borough" -

    4 years in Sunnyside, Queens

    - broken by a 6 month stay in Washington DC before I came to my senses and moved back to NYC -

1 year and change in Besonhurst
2 years and change in Park Slope

I put more than 5 years ... but now, when you add it all up, I am coming on close to 10...
And Sunnyside is just a Wonderful place to live! I loved it. If it wasn't for Park Slope, that is where I would be living.
  • Hm...I've only been here 2.5 years, not one of the biggest categories. Ah, well...don't hold it against me. :)

I will wash your mouth out with soap for that comment - NO ONE refers to it as that ;)

My brother has lived there for the past 40 years (they even named a street in honor of my nephew). I always thought it was a really nice area too. The only problem I have is that it is sooo confusing there. You have 43rd Street, 43 Lane, 43 Ave, 43 Blvd and they all intersect at some point and it wasn't for the elevated train I would be going in circles half the times I visit him.

a lot of Queens do the same too me. thank those lucky stars for the elevated subway!

and who listens to them? they live in new jersey.

oh, for the record: 2 years and a few months. all at dear old JewHo.
  • Subject: Breed or be trampled

After my grandparents fled the Ukraine and lived 50 some odd years in Portchester, my parents fled Portchester to Northern California and raised us 4 kids. I fled San Francisco and am the only spawn to swim back up stream to the semi-ancestral home.

6 months in the UWS while in school, I fled for Park Slope to get away from double wide strollers bumping me in the achilles heel.

Now the joke's on me 12 years and 6 months later a sloper and still getting run off the sidewalk by double wide strollers as all my UWS "neighbors" moved here.

    8 in Queens (Woodside)
