ATT Service not working!
We have two att/cingular cell phones and for over two years have had no problems. This Monday, we basically stopped getting service at home!
About 1 in 10 attempted calls goes through, the rest "fail". We try calling one phone from the other and once the call goes, the other phone never rings and eventually goes to voicemail. I've had the same trouble in about a 1 block radius of home (that's all I've tried--near GAP). I've rebooted the phones several times and nothing.
Has anyone else with AT&T been having trouble? Suggestions?
[I tried to chat online about it and the person just kept saying that I need to call about it, even when I said I can't as this is my home and work phone. So frustrated...] :x

usually when my phone starts acting funky like that, I pull the battery out for about 30 seconds, replace it, and everything goes back to normal. I think sometimes the signal gets locked on a tower that is nowhere near you and you need to do the hard reset.

I have 2 blackberry cell phones - one is AT&T and the other is T-Mo.
Not having any problems like you describe.
It's interesting to see how my signal is on each. TMo seems to be pretty good for me here (although there is a dead spot on 5th ave), but AT&T seems to be more consistently strong when I travel (domestically) -
Is there really any reason to have AT&T service, unless you must have the iPhone?

My firm uses AT&T...they are actually one of the better carriers across the country. Verizon is really good in the tri-state area, but AT&T is more consistant across different locations.

yes. -
When we moved to Brooklyn a couple of years ago we had Verizon and it did NOT work ever near our home in CH. Everyone said "get cingular" and we did and have never had a problem using it anywhere in the US--here, upstate in the woods, in the country of the deep south, Hawaii. Then suddenly this Monday nothing and it's really frustrating.
Good service (for 2 years) and now iPhones plus 7000 rollover minutes to pull from are the reasons we have AT&T...
It was working fine near Atl/Pac mall this morning and when I got home a few minutes ago, it was getting a little signal (which is all it usually takes to work). Fingers crossed that I can now get calls! -

It's not hate, it's a simple fact.

Service is back in full!

An employee at a Verion store once told me that she lived near me and that Verizon just sucked there and in many parts of Brooklyn. She used another provider for her cell service despite having a free, nice Verizon phone.

I have no problems with my cingular/at&t service and in the last couple of years haven't been anywhere in the city where my service is significantly worse than someone with verizon. I travel internationally a few times a year and within the country more - never have problems with cingular/at&t. so ... why would I switch to verizon, which I can't use outside of this country and is crappy outside of major urban centers?

I get to do side-by-side comparisons of Verizon and AT&T now. My new job (company based in Arkansas where Verizon works better than most) is sending me a work phone with Verizon. Let the games begin!
Oh, and let me rave about my iphone. When I was in the boondocks down south last week, I was staying with folks whose only *real* (ie not $100+/mo) internet option is dial-up. Painfully slow dial-up. Instead of using the computer there, I used my phone for email and some web-browsing and it was so much faster (on the edge network, even) than the dial-up access. It made personal and work doings so much easier. -
Perhaps you can answer my iphone question than. I've heard rumors that there are all these extra charges for using them (I guess for internet usage or sommat). Is that true?
I've noticed that in some areas of the city, my cingular signal is not as strong as what I had with t-mobile, but it's not enough to get me to consider switching.
Howdy, Stranger!
