best options for getting to the bronx ...

Hi, I'm a newish resident, also new to car-free living (which I mostly love). I want to go with a party of five to Roberto's near Arthur Avenue in the Bronx for dinner. I am a Zipcar member, but not sure if that is the best option ... getting the zipcar and returning it kind of boxes in the evening. Any thoughts?

  • You could try a car service to get you there. I'm sure Roberto's will be able to hook you up with a car service coming back.

    Otherwise, there's the subway.
  • Take the train if the ride doesn't look too rough, then take a car home when you're all full and not in the mood to wait for late night trains. You're not paying for car upkeep, parking, or insurance so think of all that savings as a pool from which to fund a car service every now and then :) (zipcar fan here)

I know most people know about hopstop, but in case someone reading this doesn't, use it to figure out the trains. It was a lifesaver my first weeks in NYC.

  • Actually, the very best way to get there is Metro North to Fordham Station then a short walk to Arthur Ave - from Park Slope take the 2 or 3 to Nevins and then the 4 or 5 to Grand Central and pick up Metro North.
  • I've got to think that a cab ride home is going to cost at least $50; plus, you'll need to snag a cab with room for 5. Plus, plus, you may need to give the driver directions, as I recently had to do when coming home from deep in Queens.
