The Dram Shop Bar
Looking forward to the opening. Ninth street next to CVS. Anyone have any info?
"Dram shop or dramshop is a legal term in the United States referring to a bar, tavern or the like where alcoholic beverages are sold. Traditionally, it referred to a shop where spirits were sold by the dram, a small unit of liquid."

I passed by here the other day. It looks beautiful inside. Gorgeous wood and the place goes pretty far back. Not sure when the opening day is though.

Dram shoppe? Oh my, please do not let me get my hopes up for some absinthe too?

Subject: Same Owner as Another Place in Carroll Gardens
The place in CG is called Angry Wades according to a friend. Never been but i hear it is pretty laid back. Hopefully a good spot for some good day drinking. -

I'm sure that if they have it, it'll be de-thujonated.
I'd still like to check this place out though once it opens. -
I am really ready to try this place out. I live close by and have been observing the gut renovation it took to get this place up and running. That "fish place" was there forever.... and it was really nasty with all those fish tanks probably leaking and the plumbing must have been ancient.

It opened today. The place is great. Pool, shuffleboard, darts....amazing space.

Bit of a derailment, but since some of you were talking about absinthe...

Looks like all the bars listed are in Manhattan, though at least some of the liquor stores are in Brooklyn.
A couple of other brands are now legal in the US but I don't know that they have a site telling you where to find their stuff. -

Nope! It's the same old stuff, Kubler absinthe is made using the same recipe it used in 1863. Oh, and we carry the Kubler though we're out of it right now. We should have it back next week.

Who/where is "we"? I know some folks who would be happy to have a local supplier. -
This place sounds so great. I am on my way!! A little OT here, mebbe a poll, but......
I'm afraid I'll be recognized by peeps on this board if I go there. Brooklynian is such a great place to rant and rave; :P I'm so thankful it's here, & anonymous. I expect I'll be sipping sugar with the very same people who hate on me here--has that ever happened to anyone? Something like that?
The paranoia is closing in..... -

Speaking of absinthe, I was clicking around the tv this morning and stopped on the CBS Morning show. Interesting history to say the least:
HOLIDAY: Absinthe
Absinthe has been called "madness in a bottle," but now, after a long prohibition, the preferred drink of 19th century poets, playwrights and artists is making a comeback. Correspondent Tracy Smith gives us a sample of the "Green Fairy."
