French bookstores? — Brooklynian

French bookstores?

I'm looking for a good bookstore with a wide selection of books in French. Fiction, non-fiction. I already know about the bookstore at Rockefeller Center. Anyone know of a place?

  • I don't know of a French bookstore per se, but have you considered joining the Alliance Française? Your membership includes the right to use their decent-sized library, as well as free tickets to a number of French movies, discounts on Francophile events, etc. More details can be found here: http://www.fiaf.org/library/index.htm
  • While not yet a brick and mortar store, we have recently opened www.moustachebooks.com, an online French bookstore that is based in Windsor Terrace. We have a modest (but growing!) selection of contemporary fiction, non-fiction, and children's books in French, and can also special order pretty much anything you can think of in French. Our prices are about as low as you can go, and shipping to the East coast is very quick from Brooklyn.

Also, if you are looking to actually browse in a french bookstore, Idlewild Books opened a nice branch recently in Carroll Gardens...

  • I would buy from you simply for being awesome enough to plug the competition. I've seen a bunch of writeups for the new Idlewild over the past few months: http://www.frenchculture.org/spip.php?article4892
