Adorable Gnocchi the TNR Kitten Found a Home!

Gnocchi is an adorable little gray tabby kitten, about 8 months old, desperately looking for a forever-home, or at least a loving foster.

image

He's one of the friendly cats trapped during lulu's momma's TNR on Bergen Street http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=39465.

He needs medication in his eyes for an infection he got when he was a baby. The infection went untreated and damaged his right eye, which will always be smaller than the left. He knows that he's not perfect, and wonders if that's why the humans who had him when he was a baby threw him away into the streets. He hopes that he can find a person who will love him forever - he promises to be a good sweet boy and a loyal buddy.

Gnocchi is a little shy but he loves being pet - he purrs and purrs - and he loves playing! Cute video of Gnocchi:

That little rumbling motor noise in the video is Gnocchi purring - it's even louder in real life! If you'd like to visit him and hear for yourself, please let us know!

Except for his eye, which is healing, Gnocchi is in very good health (FIV and FeLV negative, spayed) and he is microchipped. He needs a patient loving foster who will be able to give him his medication every day for the next month or two until his eye is totally healed. His infection is not communicable.

Please PM me or email bergenbabies (at) gmail (dot) com if you have a place for him in your home.

  • He's adorable - and what a little motor purr he has!

Thanks for getting him off the street. I hope he finds a good forever home soon

  • What an awesome video that full captures little gnocchi's absolute adorableness. Thanks for posting this Violet!
  • Must... Not.... Adopt....

My God. What a wonderful kitty.
  • I know! The purr-motor, the adorable snuggly-ness... He really is a sweet little dumpling. He let us clip his nails with no complaints at all. He loves to play with toys and he also loves to be pet. He must be thinking that maybe humans can be friends, like he faintly remembers from when he was a baby, before he was tossed into the street, but he needs a loving and patient family to show him and to teach him what it is to belong.

Earlier this week I discovered a new game to play with him. I put my hand out to him, palm up, and said "Gimme five" and he reached forward and tapped my hand with his paw. Then I raised my hand up above his head and said "Way up high" and he sat up straight and reached up and tapped my hand with his paw again. Then I lowered my hand to the floor of his cage and said "Way down low" and he tapped my hand again. I wanted to say "Too slow!" and pull my hand away, but he kept tapping my hand before I could get out of the way. So instead I grabbed his soft little paw gently and say "Too slooow" and he cocks his head questioningly, then rolls over on his side so I can rub his belly. Yesterday he played "Gimme five" over and over. Of course, today when I brought a camera down he refused to play. Typical cat!

He's allowed out of the cage to roam around one room in the basement, and he takes full advantage when we're not there. Newspaper that was on the bed ends up mysteriously on the floor, little toys that were on the windowsill end up inside his cage... So we know he explores. But when we come in he is always in the cage. I think he feels more secure there when people are there. Tonight we tossed a toy around outside the cage, temptingly, and he crouched and scooted from one back leg to the other and finally he couldn't stand it anymore and he bounded outside the cage to catch the toy! He played for a while, realized that he was outside the cage, and then scampered back in.

He really needs stable company. We only go down to the basement to see him when we give him his medicine, so he only gets to hang out with humans for an hour or so per day. And none of that time is just relaxed, human-in-the-background-reading-or-watching-TV time. He desperately needs a forever-home or a real foster with someone who will be patient and encouraging and kind towards him. He's still kitten-playful and funny and goofy, but he's also got maturity beyond his age and shows it by being so sweet and cuddly.

Now if only he'd do "Gimme Five" for the camera! I will post more pictures soon. If anyone knows of a foster or (better) someone who might be interested in adopting a little kitten, please let us know!
  • That is adorable! I'll have a couple more weeks until I find out if Alice and Trixie will be staying in their temporary home. I figured I could possibly take a foster in during that time but Jenny from Kensington Kitties called me yesterday about 2 cats. (We met when they were set up on 7th Ave across from my job.) If it turns out she doesn't need me how do you think Gnocchi would feel about the chaos that is my house? (Down to 4 cats, 2 kittens, and 2 dogs.)
  • Isn't he a cutie?

I have no idea if a sort've shy-ish kitten would be better off in a quiet home (so he can gain confidence) or a more active home (so he can learn that he can be brave in a crowd). I honestly don't know!

But he is getting braver by the day. Yesterday I hardly had to coax him out from his cage, and when he got out he RAN REALLY FAST around the room up on the bed down from the bed around the cage back into the cage and then back out of the cage. He did that several times, burning off some kitten-energy.

And this afternoon when I came in he was on the bed and he stretched and hopped down off the bed to meet me at the door. So he really is trying, and I think he's doing really well.

He loves playing, wrestling with fingers and toes, chasing toys...

Here he is checking out the personals:

He's trying to get inspiration to write his own personal.
"Single gray tabby kitten seeks loving home to play in. 8-months old, healthy (except for healing infection in right eye), happy, cuddly little sweet dumpling. New to the human scene but excited to join a family. Much joy and love and fun in exchange for kibble and a litterbox and love."

  • Here is a new video. You can see his eyes better than in the pictures because in the pictures my camera flash makes him close his eyes.
At about 32 seconds and again at 43 seconds he suddenly pounces - it's a little toy that he's after but you can't see the toy because it's out of the frame.

  • V, I just emailed you about Gnocchi. I know someone interested in adopting him!
  • I got your email caseopele. Thank you!
Hopefully this person will meet Gnocchi this week...
I'll post an update once we know for sure.
  • Subject: Gnocchi still needs a home

Unfortunately caseopele's friend won't be able to take Gnocchi. Honestly, I think that the adoption process is a bit daunting.

So the little guy still needs a place to lay his hat. He only has one week of eye-medicine to go, and he's as cute as ever. He's playful (loves chasing string and "wrestling" with your hand), cuddly, and sweet. Is anyone interested in adopting or fostering him? I'll post more pictures soon.

Here is a video. It's long - about four minutes - but there are six cute scenes of Gnocchi.
I hope you enjoy it. I think he's just delicious.
I really hope he finds a home soon.

  • That curled tail is so adorable!
  • I'm so sorry, V! I can't believe how many people don't understand the adoption process when it comes to rescues. They don't understand that we have these animals that came from awful places in our homes. And we only want the best for them. It would have been different if Gnocchi was one of my fosters since I could have taken care of the home visit myself. I think my mom's friend thought my word would be enough but it's not as if we've all known each other for years. But she didn't understand that most of you only know me from this board (I've only met Violet). Again, I'm really sorry this didn't work out. Hopefully, my mom and I can help her understand why rescues work the way they do. If not for Gnocchi then for another cat.
  • Lulu's momma brought a man to meet Gnocchi last night. The man is very interested, and seems really nice. We should know next week... Fingers crossed!
  • I'm sending out vibes for this man to take Gnocci. How could he resist?!
  • I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed! I can't believe how cute Gnocchi is. I wish I could take him home with me. Last night I was just dying he was so cute.

Just in case, I put new flyers up at Back to the Land when I was there this morning. But I'm hoping this guy pulls through. More soon!

Thanks for all the rad pictures and videos V!
  • Subject: hide & seek

    The home-visit will be soon...

In the meanwhile, I want to share a new game that Gnocchi plays. He likes to play hide-and-seek. He sits on the arm of the sofa and I crouch down behind the other arm, so he can't see me. Then I poke my head up from behind the sofa and say "hey" and then hide again. He crouches down with his rump in the air, excited. I pop up and say "hey!" again and then hide. He runs to the middle of the sofa and flattens himself out. I pop up one last time and say "hello" and when I hide again he RUNS AS FAST AS HE CAN and hops up on the arm of the sofa that I'm hiding behind, and when I pop up and we're nose to nose he hops up in the air a little and RUNS as fast as he can back to the other sofa arm. I don't know if I'm describing it well, but I just wanted to say it is SO CUTE.

Gnocchi is now getting nasty (cherry) flavored meds orally, in addition to getting creams and drops in his (improving) eyes. He's such a good boy, he just sits patiently while I pry his mouth open and inject his meds, and then when I let him go he trots away, tail flipped up in that little curl on his back. I know his new family (hopefully the man who met him last weekend?) is going to love him as much as we do.
  • Violet, that sounds so adorable! Gnocchi sounds like such a special little guy. I love how he curls his little tail when he plays, he looks like a little lemur. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for Gnocchi!
  • Subject: Gnocchi found a home!

On Thursday lulu's momma went and did a home visit with Gnocchi's new dad. The man is very nice, lives in Queens, and has a lovely home. He decided to adopt Gnocchi! Gnocchi will share the home with another cat (who is very sweet). We dropped Gnocchi off at his new home tonight. Gnocchi is in his own room until he and his new kitty-friend get used to each other. He had a snack, relaxed in his cage, and even batted a toy around a little. I'll post updates when Gnocchi's new dad sends them, but for now we can unsticky this post! Thank you!
Here are some pictures and video we took this morning:

  • yay! another happy ending!

Violet - you did such a good thing here :-)
  • Yay! I'm so glad Gnocchi found a good home, he's such a cutie. I love his little face and that tail just kills me! Seriously, doesn't he look like a lemur?
