New Bar Opening Tonight on 9th Street
It's called the Dram Shop I believe. Owned by the owner of Angy Wades. Now, I don't know Angry Wades that well, however, I would venture to say that the Dram Shop will be noticeably different.
What I do know is that the place is big... booths, big long bar, and a pool table in back that can't be seen from the front window. Oh, and the place seems to be rather nicely decorated.
They will eventually have food.
Is this a shill? Do I know the owner? Am I the original Drunken Guest? Well, not really.

Karl, you ROCK!
thanks for making my day -
I havent tried this place yet but they do have food... lite menu posted outside that included burgers and nachos and stuff like that. Good choices if the idea is to snack with drinks. It would be great to get a decent burger on 9th street.

My best friend and I stopped by Dram Bar last night (weds) at around 8:15 to celebrate my belated birthday since I was on a business trip during the real-thing.
The place was reasonably busy, but not totally packed. The bar was full but we found two seats at the end towards the door.
And we sat. And we sat. And we sat for about 15 minutes- the bartender never even made it down to our end of the bar. I don't think she was deliberately ignoring us, but she was NOT working the entire bar and spent a good 4-5 minutes chatting with one set of patrons. So I got up to go to the center of the bar to get a drink menu- she looked me in the eye once (or maybe just glanced in my general direction?) and then never came back. After about 20 minutes of sitting there with no water, no menu, no service whatsoever we left and went to Barbes.
Needless to say I'm quite perturbed. The bar itself seemed really nice and the food smelled/looked great...but I won't be going back. I don't care how busy it is, rarely in NYC do I wait more than 5 minutes for a drink even at the most packed, posh places...and never when I have a SEAT at the bar.
I hope the owner or manager of this establishment reads this and makes an effort to improve. There were two guys sitting next to us and when we were leaving they suggested two other bars, noting that "it sucks that she [bartender] is refusing to even serve you." -
funny -- the exact same thing happened to me. I was there with 2 other people. The bar was about 50% full and the one bartender was down the other end in service chatting away. We sat there for at least 10 minutes trying to order.
No menu, no water, no greeting, no nothing.
The bartender came over and apologized and said she didn't see us. I find it hard to believe that at a somewhat empty bar you can miss 3 people walking in and sitting down.
It's a great looking place, but they need to step up the service and get another bartender to work the huge bar. it definately is a 2 person bar.
Just as we were about to leave she came over and took our order. We had one beer and left to go to commonwealth.
Also, not to sound like an old fogey, but the music was way too loud. We were sitting next to each other and practically screaming to each other so we could be heard over the music. -
See previous posts about female bartenders...If you can get them off their cell, you're lucky.
A Former Bartender.

The Dram Shop has great bartenders, its unfortunate that you met a bad one. Some of the bartenders have worked in the neighborhood for years and are really fun. The food is great and the shuffleboard, pool, connect 4 and dartboard are fantastic! -
You work there, don't you
