Elly's being sold
Subject: Elly's being sold
From Brownstoner:"Elly's, the smalltown grocery store that's been a fixture on the corner of Clermont and Dekalb Avenues for more than four decades, is about to get a makeover and some fresh blood. According to the personal blog of Observer scribe Doree Shafrir, the couple that has run the place for, like, forever says they're handing over the reins to "some Korean people." The store will close next week for renovations. Good news or not?"
I've always been frustrated that its posted hours were really just guidelines. I feel sympathy for the old man, but I don't think what was going on was working.

Nice! It's a great location. Hope they pull it off.

I agree, what was going on wasn't working. I never know if they'll be open or not so I don't even consider them an option anymore. I don't know if a Korean green market is going to make me happy either. I already feel like I get jacked the minute I walk into the one on Greene.
How 'bout a nice store with fresh produce that is fairly priced? THAT would make me happy. -
Ugh, I call Green Farms the fauxdega. Their flowers will disappoint and die on you the next day practically every time. Their food is way overpriced, odd in what's missing, and the people manning the register seem a little...weird.
Produce aside, I try to spend as much of my corner-convenience-store purchasing for the bodega next to Green Farms. The people there are really nice. -

They ARE really nice in there.

And yes, the people manning the register at Green Farms are... odd. And why is it that whatever I buy in there, in any combination, it is always $20?
