Revisting Coco Roco — Brooklynian

Revisting Coco Roco

It has been a while since we ate here... the health violations and the long time "closed" for renovation made this place sink to bottom of our list. We ordered half a chicken, a red snapper, rice and beans and the creamy shrimp soup. All the food was good and the creamy shrimp soup is a meal in itself... If there is rice on the table add a little rice and it becomes a meal in itself. the service was slow and uninterested... as it always has been. Their take out and delivery business is huge and frankly I think that is the way to go rather than eating in the restaurant.

  • Hah, when I was in 4th grade at PS 29 my class went on a field trip there. I can't believe they're still around after 9 years! Maybe I'll have to go there some time :)

Geez.. Now I really feel old. My elementary school class went to field trips to the Prospect park Zoo... when there were still polar bears in the zoo. We never went to restaurants!!! What an idea.

And isn't it spooky that being in business 9 years is a "long time" when this city was built of family businesses that went from one generation of ownership to the next.
  • Had brunch there Saturday with some friends and it did not disappoint. I'm digging the live music they've had lately.

As for slow/unattentive service, that seems to be the norm in NYC :) I must say our service was excellent (what was the norm when I lived in other states) at Moutarde the other night.
  • Well, that was the only time we did. I think it was because the owners of the restaurant were also the parents of one of the girls in my class.
  • The service there has always been like that-it is just one of those things you have to go in knowing. You are going to wait a long time for your food and the service is lackluster. But, the food, IMO, is worth it. And, the best sangria in town.

For better service and the same food-go to the Coco Roco on Smith Street. Same menu, food is really good and the service is tremendously better.
