NYCPET on Myrtle — Brooklynian

NYCPET on Myrtle

I went into this store the other day, it's a new pet store on myrtle next to yamashiro. The prices were ridiculous! A $2 bag of chicken jerky treats was $8. Also, the staff didn't seem very interested or informed.

  • My boyfriend once tried to buy two regular rawhide bones at the NYCPet on Bedford and the total came to $24. Turns out, they were $12 each! For rawhide!
  • Subject: Prices

not sure what everyone is talking about but the Iams catfood I usually buy at Target is $2.00 cheaper at NYCPet.
  • Although the cashier was on a cell phone the whole time she did stop to ask if I needed anything when I walked in.

Prices are cheaper than the local Associated for basics like cat litter.
  • I stopped by tonight to pick up our usual stuff (wet food, dry food, kitty litter) and I couldn't have had a more pleasant experience.

The two people behind the counter (teenage girl, guy in his 20's) both smiled and said hi when I came in. Then later on I had my arms full of cat food cans and one of the employees came to me and carried all the cans up to the register. Then he came back and informed me that if I bought a few more cans, I'd get $1 off (for buying a case, apparently).

I dunno. Maybe I got lucky... or maybe the pet store saw the complaints in this thread! At any rate, I'll certainly be going back.

As for prices, everything seemed similar to Associated. The wet food was about $.10 cheaper per can. Also NYCPet was extremely well stocked. They had every flavor under the sun of our preferred brand.
  • I've been in twice, and both times the staff was very friendly. Last night I went in looking for a doggy raincoat, and they didn't have one.

Prices seem on par with Who's Your Doggy - a bit on the expensive side, but not too bad. We'll still head up to K-9 caterers in Queens for the basic stuff, but it's defintiely nice to have another good pet store around.
  • Subject: Myrtle NYCPet store? AWESOME!

I don't know, but all I can say is, that this store and his stuff is great! I always get treaten more like a friend than customer, the amount I have to pay is more than okay and if I have questions, they prove to me already several times that their knowledge with pet nutrition is great!

If you think this store is bad, head eastbound on Myrtle to this other Petstore and you will see things you won't like!
  • I mentioned to them that I need my dog's allergy formula in a 30 lb bag and that I go through about 3 bags/ month. Since I mentioned it to them they always keep it in stock and the one time they were out they hopped in the van and picked up a bag from their other location and brought it to me while I waited!
Their prices seem about the same as other pet shops in the area for the same product. A thing like a rawhide can vary greatly in quality; unless you are comparing the same brand it's not an apples-apples comparison. Rawhides made and packaged in China or South America are not subject to quality control the way ones made in the USA are and can actually make your dog quite ill.
