HA! Yes, I am familiar with both! I don't know if Bambiland (a petting zoo of baby deer and does) is still in business but it's worth a visit. We had a cabin and I was shipped up there every summer until I was old enough to get a job. Never would have thought of it as a destination! Were you waist-deep in snow?

Really?! I've only met two or three other people from Arkansas the whole six years I've lived here, and NEVER anyone from Hot Springs! Strange.

Lawrence, Kansas, on the other hand -- I've got several friends from there who have also ended up here and have met at least two dozen more people from Lawrence who now live here.

Wait, you mean Brooklyn is like Maine? Where, if your family hasn't lived there for *generations*, you're not really "from there"?

What about those of us whose family lived here for generations (Brooklyn Heights & Coney Island from 1892 on), whose parents joined the white flight of the 70's and who ended up born & raised in the burbs (in this case, Stamford, CT)? Then who went to college in the city and has been in Prospect Heights for four years?

Does that make me 'from here', only kinda, or not at all?

Born in East New York. Spent my first couple of years in Brooklyn, then upstate New York then Illinois. Moved back to Queens when I was about 8. Lived in Queens and Brooklyn since, except for a short stint in New Paltz.

It occurs to me that people who've recently moved to the area, especially from another city, will naturally be overrepresented here as we're finding our feet and getting to know the neighborhood. A long time resident would be more likely to have their own network and sources of information, and generally know the lie of the land, hence have less interest in the forum. Having a few helpful old-timers around who know what's what is very valuable to the rest of us. So what on earth are you doing here, devincf?

    There's no e in masturbation.

Anyway, I came here originally because while i lived her for many years, most of my friends were from outside of the neighborhood. I thought it would be a nice place to meet local people. It ended up being mostly a reactionary group of frightened suburbanites and groupthinkers, sadly. I did get some great freelance work from this board, though!

That was actually a copy/paste, sister - someone else's typo that I missed.

Anyway, you've been living here for a long time, eh? Cool - your property value has probably gone up quite a bit, then!
