new to hood! — Brooklynian

new to hood!

just moved from park slope, now i'm on hte corner of park place and franklin.

love my new place, it's cheap, and nice. different feel for the 'hood, but at least i don't have to fight with double wide strollers for sidewalk space anymore!

where are good places to eat? bars? coffee shops?

  • No good bars in your immediate hood, though I guess it depends on what type of bar you enjoy. In the past there was some humorous talk of opening a glassy bar on the SE corner of Lincoln and Classon. And, come to think of it, your handle would be wonderful name for such a place.

Captain Salty's Tavern. Now that sounds good! Are you interested in becoming a small-business owner? With all of the lushes in the area (myself included) you'd be a very rich person in no time.
  • as luck would have it, there will be a bar opening on your corner in a month or two.
  • Just walk down a couple blocks to Nostrand and pick any number of awesome Caribbean restaurants. For specific options, just search the board. There's oodles of already discussed info.
  • welcome
we just moved to park place as well
the fish place, a little down from the S exit, on the opposite side of the street is great
and the corner spot on park place & the east side of franklin is also good.
my neighbor recommends the 2 places opposite each other on sterling & franklin.
haven't explored Nostrand yet, I tend to go (gasp) over to vanderbilt for more variety

(i am an escapee from stroller hell as well, tho mine was across the river)

Which bar is that and what kind of place is it going to be?
  • Gloria's, Gloria's, Gloria's! She's the BEST for Carribean food - anything on that menu is good. The Dal is to die for....

Bedford and Sterling, right on the corner.
  • corner of park place & franklin
where the tax place used to be
    bar & tapas

    Tapas! YAY! I love Tapas.
  • Isn't Gloria's on Nostrand and Sterling? There's also another Gloria's down by Empire. And a new outpost of D'Ital Shack is opening up on Nostrand, near Sterling. Awesome, awesome vegan patties. Like, 12 kinds. Callaloo, I love you.

where are the other locations? I love good veggie/vegan patties.
  • Tavern on Nostrand is great, on nostrand between president and crown i believe, wine list, sorta upscale (for CH). bagels and high tea across the street, very nice. I think there is a small place called glenda's on sterling? between nostrand and new york _ great rotis.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!
  • Suffered from insomnia last night and ended up going for a late night walk through the neighborhood. Discovered a few new things:

    1) Bank ATM's in the hood: There's a new WaMu on Bedford and Eastern Parkway with shiny well lit enclosed ATM's. So long cheap bodega ATMs that clone your information

    2) Middle of the night vegetable run: There were not one but two Korean green grocers open at 1am on Nostrand between Lincoln and Sterling. Need limes for margaritas? Apples for sangria? A pickled pig’s foot? Your prayers have been answered.

    3) Vegetarians: Nature's Organic Food and Natures Health Food Supermarket also on Nostrand (somewhere around St. John's). I don't know if these spots are new, but the signage sure is. I usually pass this place by during the day and haven't noticed any construction, but the have two new well lit signs outside which were quite noticeable at night.

Do you mean Bergen and Washington? Bedford and Washington run parallel.
