Read this today and thought of conversations had about the West Indian Day paradeNot the same thing by any means...but it brings up some thoughtful points. Never too early to look to Labor Day!

xlizellx-I'm presently looking forward to summer beginning, not its ceremonial end. That said, yes, the article does bring up some good points. In my mind, it brings up the balance that the WIDCA has to walk between "selling out" and "keeping it real".I found the "not WIDCA" events at Barclay's Arena to be very telling. They provided direct competition to the events WIDCA sponsors behind the museum, and have further allowed people to celebrate NY's carnival week within their class.Given everyone's attempt to distance themselves from the actual parade, it could end up being an event that is mainly patronized by those "not committed enough" and/or "too poor" to attend the pay events.
Howdy, Stranger!
