Kingston Avenue Street Festival: May 17

As I said last year, this festival needs to extend more south, maybe as far as Lincoln Pl. so that more businesses get involved. The police have no problem shutting down the street for a few hours as the day care center on Kingston and Lincoln has a parade of some sort for the kids in May during the week and the street was always closed to traffic.
-
I don't know that they could pull off a festival large enough to spread out that much. Density is key.
-
True, but there could be more sidewalk tables from the businesses. It just seems that if they want these businesses to participate the owners would want some traffic coming their way.
-
Unlike the Atlantic Antic and other street fairs, I do not think the primary purpose of this street fair is to generate revenue for nearby businesses. The target population is very low income....I believe the primary goal is to give the area children a safe day and some fun activities. Community building of the 1:1 variety.
-
If that's the case then I'm sure they'll succeed.
-
I would say last year's festival was definitely a success in terms of giving the kids safe and fun activities, maybe also exposing them to some new things, and also raising awareness about the stop the violence campaigns. A pic from last year:

Here's an uncropped version of the photo in the above flyer. I feel it tells a bigger story.
