Kinara II on Myrtle — Brooklynian

Kinara II on Myrtle

When I used to live in Park Slope, I often ordered from Kinara Indian Food on 5th Ave. The prices were good, the delivery quick, and the food was definitely a cut above most other Indian delivery options, like the ubiquitous Amin.

So, when I heard from Myrtle Menus that Kinara II would be opening on Myrtle between Adelphi and Clermont, I was very excited. Every once in a while, I called to see if they were open yet. Finally, last night, they were.

Since the restaurant isn't THAT close to my house, I described where I was located, and specifically asked if they could deliver. They said that they could, and I gave them my order and phone number.

The food ended up finally appearing an hour and a half later. Our appetizers were cold but, miraculously, our curries were still warm enough. The food was still very good, but I definitely could have gone and picked it up myself much faster. I guess that is what I will do in the future.

Anyone else had experiences with them, good or bad?

  • I ordered from Kinara II tonight and it was great! The food got to us very quickly, was hot and really yummy. I called around 6:30 or so and I think it only took a bit over a half hour to get here.

I'm so psyched there's now a good indian delivery option in CH/FG because I hate Amin's food and never ordered from them.
  • Yeah, Amin's is really subpar. My boy found a great Indian place over on Fulton and Lafayette, right next to the G train exit, which is pretty cheap and delicious. I don't know if they deliver, but we've gone for pickup several times and it seems to take a little longer than you might expect, but it's always worth it.

Really? I order Amin's and it's always decent. I get the same thing every time: Tikka masala.

I will definitely try this new place if you guys think it's better.
  • I used to order from that place on Fulton (Taste of India?) and the food is pretty good and very cheap. I kind of gave up on them because they used to have problems with the delivery and the food was very inconsistent. The chicken Tikka is very good from there, though, I sometimes get it to go and have it as a healthy snack or make an indian-inspired chicken salad on pita out of it.

I shouldn't talk smack about Amin because truthfully I haven't eaten there since 2003 or thereabouts but I remember thinking it was terribly bland and boring. Kinara is worth a try, their food is actually spicy!
  • here's a recent review by a fellow blogger:

    it didn't score too highly.
  • So I tried these guys via delivery tonight for the first time. It took about an hour. I live like 6 blocks away (literally). Arg.

The food was ok but luke-warm obviously. I'll probably give them one more chance and if it takes forever again, it's back to Amin.
