An interesting effort in Bed Stuy marks the lives of those lost to homicide:

    http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20140606/bed-stuy/silhouette-cut-outs-honor-victims-of-bed-stuy-gun-violence

It differs from the wall shrine in that the markers are placed at the scene (like Ghost Bikes), instead of all together in one place.

Meanwhile, I continue to wait and see what will be done with the wall shrine now that the landlord and those who care about it have a spoken "continuation agreement".

How will the people who remain from the era proceed?

Needless to say, choosing to let it be is a choice.

  • If the mural is sacred why is the clothing bid mounted in front of it without complaint?  Needless to say but it is an eyesore especially there blocking the mural and an illegal installation of a fence around the bin on a public sidewalk.
  • Wow!  It's like two Brooklynian threads just crashed into each other.. Shrine vs bins!
  • If you look closely at the adjoining properties, that bin seems to be on private property.

In many instances, property owners have chosen to create sidewalk on their property. When they do so, they still retain their right to place an ice machine, clothing bin, vending machine, etc there.

Those that care about the wall are lucky the landlord has -so far- respected their wishes that it remain.

If I grew up with those those listed on the wall, I don't know how I would proceed.
