Lincoln & Classon: Natiinal Grid Ongoing Drilling Mess???

Does anyone know what the heck National Grid is doing at the corner, and down the street on Lincoln Pl, at NW corner of Classon Ave? They have been drilling and destroying the street & sidewalk over and over again, every day, for about a month now, starting their noise at 730am and leaving the sidewalks covered in a tarry mess. Any clue what their goal is, when they'll be done, and if they'll be repairing the streets and sidewalks back to their original proper condition, with cement sidewalks rather than the awful asphalt stripes?

They're putting in high pressure gas systems...at least that's what the Natty Grid guys told me. Luckily they only had to dig up a small portion of our sidewalk but they also had to drill through our building in order to install a venting system. In the process they destroyed some plants in our garden and left a mess in our basement. They said they would be back to replace the blacktop with cement but I took photos before any work was started to cover our ass.They were also kind of dicks when I told them they didn't give us enough notice before turning off the gas to our building. Basically 24 hour notice and saying we were shit out of luck. Real pros.
