Parking Suggestions

We moved to the neighborhood back in August (Sterling & Butler). Since then we have been playing the game of moving the car 3 or 4 nights a week for the alternate parking. Originally, we were planing on looking for a parking lot or a garage for the winter.

Last night someone broke into our car and stole nothing. The window was not smashed, somehow they were able to force the window to open from the outside. There are marks on the glass from either a screw driver or perhaps a crowbar, not sure.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for either a parking lot or a garage in the area? I know there are a few garages in Park Slope that charge over $350 a month, which is almost more than our car payment.

  • Park Slope is going to cost you a lot more than Prospect heights. There is a garage on St Johns btw. Classon and Franklin that costs around 210 per month including taxes and it is indoors 24-7. That might be a hike for you?

If you see any open lots with cars in your area, try and ask someone that you see parking there. Those tend to be non-advertised spaces that can be rented if there is a vacancy. There is a lot on Classon towards Dean, but I don't know what they charge.

Think of the broken glass as a welcome basket. It has been happening a lot around here. It might be a way for the locals to revolt against new people?
  • The garage on Underhill b/t Prospect and St. Marks is $250/mo including taxes. The one on St. Marks b/t Underhill and Vandy is a little cheaper, about $225 I think. Both are completely indoors and open 24/7. I use the first one and haven't had any problems.

How much do you drive? Because for that $700 a month you could drive more than 7 full days with a Zipcar (www.zipcar.com). There are 3 garages in PH and many more surrounding that have the cars. Starting at $95 a day (or less) gets you the car, gas and insurance. Also hourly rates for shorter trips.
