South of Eastern Parkway
What is it like these days south of Eastern Parkway between Franklin and Bedford. Carroll Street (between Franklin and Bedford) is of particular interest to me since I might move to that street.
I've been there both during the day and night, and it seems quite nice, but I'd love some input from anyone more familiar with the area.
Is it safe? Is the neighborhood going through the same change as Franklin Ave north of Eastern Pkwy?
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It's a cool neighborhood with a good mix of long-time residents and newcomers. Not a long walk from the most active parts of Franklin Ave with more stores and restaurants on Franklin continuing to open south of EP.
There aren't as many shootings and knifings as there were a few years ago, but still a decent number, mostly in the summer. But those are almost all between people who know each other so you don't have much to worry about there. -
I've lived on that block for over two years and never had any trouble or worried too much about safety. We're a block away from the police station, so the area is generally well watched. Having said that, I did hear someone getting chased down by police and then arrested from my window last night. But associated is just around the corner, the subway isn't far, and the fancier restaurants are a short walk too. I would definitely recommend it.

While the police station referenced above is a Transit Precinct, the area is well watched by its assigned precinct as well:

I live on Montgomery Between Rogers & Nostrand in The Dearborn coop building. It is a pleasant neighborhood and you should have no major fears about moving there. We are close to everything as indicated above and the neighborhood is only going to get better as the growth spreads south of Eastern Parkway - which is already happening.

Re: changes - There's a TD Bank on the corner of Bedford and Sullivan. I'm a long-time resident, and I remember when no one would have wanted to open a bank branch in the area. (It wasn't that long ago.)Is it safe? Is the neighborhood going through the same change as Franklin Ave north of Eastern Pkwy?Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!Re: additional changes - Search the forums for discussion on Mountain (on Franklin and Carroll Street) and the discussion about the (partial) closure of Crown Street for Medgar Evers
I don't have problems walking down Bedford Avenue from the Franklin Avenue train station. -
I live on that block. I think it's the "best of both worlds." Much cheaper rents than north of the parkway, but only a few blocks away from all the action. Places are opening up around here anyways and also south towards Lefferts Gardens (check out Bluebird!). Also, it's super close to Washington, the BBG and the museum if you walk west on Carroll. It's a dead end for cars, but there's a little pedestrian passage that I only noticed two months after I moved in.
