CB9 Meeting = S#%TSHOW

Here is the first email I received within 90 minutes of it being shut down. Can't wait to read the stories tomorrow. SMDH!!!image

  • I can't say this is surprising in light of the pre-event indicators:

Yes, I expect the media will be all over this in the morning.

  • Do they not understand that as more people are born that more apartments are needed? If less housing is available apartment prices will rise and more people will be "displaced."

The Parkside Q blogger is stating the show was rescheduled for Nov 3rd:

"First off...the Community Board meeting was forced to shut down early. Officials at Medgar Evers were not amused by the rowdy makeshift demonstration that erupted when the auditorium we were in became filled to capacity, and some eager attendees were shut out due to fire code.

Democracy was being denied! Where were all these people the last few years that I've sat through poorly attended dull meetings? I guess we should be grateful for all the new fans! Next time, check out Stubhub guys.

The meeting was adjourned til Monday night, November 3, when we can move into the larger auditorium, and enjoy the same disrespectful dialogue"

  • And now, the view of MTOPP:

    Dear Neibhro

We came to talk, to educate, to be heard
    and they.....
Stepped up their violations of the Law!
They conducted a meeting in a 70 room capacity auditorium
Packed us in like sardines, endangered our welfare
(The police had to bring chairs into the auditorium for the more fail residents)
They refused to stop the meeting and move the venue
    Into safer accommodations!
Then they barred the community from the meeting!

At least 100 people were not allowed to enter into the auditorium!
Police were stationed outside the College sending dozens of people home.
Even our elected official Davis was barred from entering!

And they had come prepared to do it!
At least 30 cops were on the scene before the meeting ever began!
A Police State run by a Police Officer!

It was Medgar Evers' administrative body that
demanded that the meeting be closed down,
not wanting to create hostile relationship with the community!

We must organize against this violation of the law!
Our constitutional rights to assemble and be heard!
The political corruption going rampant in our community.
Not one other elected official came to this meeting!

    Now we must organize!
We have an Emergency Meeting set-up for Tonight!
    Wednesday, October 29
    at 89 Sterling St - 7 pm.
    Please come!

    Alicia,

    (718) 703-3086

  • and then this email went out this morning:

Emergency Meeting Tonight - Barred the Community

Emergency Meeting Tonight, WED. OCT 29 - 89 STERLING ST. @ 7PM ADDRESS THE
BARRING OF THE COMMUNITY FROM OUR COMMUNITY MEETING!

It would not surprise me if MEC decides that allowing the CB space to meet outweighs the benefits.

Rudy Crew is a wise man. He might decide this soon.
  • Yep @whynot_31 - I agree.  I am hearing Medgar Edgars does NOT want to be involved in any way with what has became such a volatile issue.  By hosting these meetings they are thereby attaching their name to all these slugfests - this is a problem for them and not what they signed up for - and from what I am hearing they have had it.

And again - I don't understand why CB9 said the meeting was Monday to everyone when now folks are saying that was never confirmed and looks to be less and less like a possibility.  Between Alicia's theatrics, hysteria and hostility and CB9's inability to run a professional operation the fear for my neighborhood grows.
  • The area will grow and change with (or without) a functioning Community Board.

MTOPP likely feels it is growing in strength but I see them as alienating all of the politicians except Mr Davis.

Change is hard. MTOPP is looking for people to blame for change, and fails to see that their opponents are not even in the room.

  • @whynot_31, just curious, what office does Mr. Davis hold?
  • I believe he is the 43rd district leader:

    https://twitter.com/GeoffreyADavis

And that he filled the position after it was vacated by Jesse Hamiliton:

...I don't think the position pays any money.

DAN INFO has updated their story with a response from Medgar Evers.  Two things jump out:

1 - CB9 says MEC forced them to shut the meeting down - the spokesperson for the college said they had nothing to do with that

2 - The spokesperson from the college said as of Wednesday there has been no request for a new meeting next week although CB9 said on Monday the meeting would be held on Monday

Community Board 9 needs to get their act together!!!!!!!!!!!

As stated previously, we are being asked to choose sides in a fight between two drunk people on the subway at 2 AM.

CB9 is the less drunk and obnoxious of the two, but you aren't going to see me coming to their aid.

Indeed, the rescheduled mtg won't be held at MEC.

It will held at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Alumni Auditorium on Monday Nov 3rd at 7 PM.
395 Lenox Rd (between New York and Brooklyn Ave).

Mr. Crew seems to have been able to get the meeting moved, without becoming the reason it was moved.   A wise man, indeed.

...I wonder it will ever return to MEC.
  • I think MEC is done with CB9 and I can't blame them
  • Actually I just received Diana Richardson's 'Richardson's Report' and it looks like it WILL be back at MEC for the November meeting.....

I don't think that allows MTOPP enough time to figure out that CB9 does not contribute much to capitalism, and it is therefore a silly target.
