A slew of cruisers and an ambulance just flew by me heading in the direction of Utica (I'm on PP).
-
NYC FireWire (a fire scanner site) is reporteding that several vehicles were set on fire at the 77th pct, one was a police vehicle and the others may be the private cars of NYPD.
Perp is reportedly in custody..

Takes a lot of balls.
-
That'll teach them not to park on the sidewalk.
-
Holy shit! That's insane.
Takes a lot of balls.
And lot of anger as well as stupidity. -
99% stupidity.
-
It is usually those close to being unhinged who become completely unhinged in times of severe stress.
The suspect likely has recent involvement with the criminal justice system and/or the mental health system.

Or maybe he's just pissed at the Garner verdict.
-
Yes, it would not surprise me if the verdict (ie lack of indictment) is the severe stress that pushed this individual over the edge.
It is has upset a lot of people. -
Lot of organized protest regarding the non-indictment; seems unlikely this arsonist acted alone and in spite of the non-indictment. That was my initial thought when I saw the NYScanner tweet, but the fact that five non-police vehicles were also burned makes that seem less likely.
-
The vehicle in the photo is said to be the police vehicle (an unmarked car).
It is not clear to me whether the other 5 vehicles were owned by individual officers, as opposed to the police dept.
Such vehicles are often near pcts and have placards on their dashboards, making it easy to conclude that they are owned by an employee of the NYPD.

DNA info is now reporting that they have no suspects in the case. Did the guy they arrested just "disappear"? Or did they have the wrong guy in the first place?

Story has also changed from several cars to one car, a personal vehicle with no identification. Clearly something strange is going on here. You might mistake two vandalized cars for one, but 7?
-
So far, we have only seen a picture of one vandalized car.
Perhaps the others had less damage and weren't as photo worthy?
With regard to the car that was damaged, Rachel/DNA reports it as being covered in "dust".
Could it be some char from flamable liquid being thrown on it?
....I do like watching the news evolve. -
Per the 77th Pct:
-
Wouldn't put it past the good old 77th to grab the wrong guy.
-
I do hope the initial suspect was merely briefly detained and questioned.
-
Let us hope the alternative isn't exactly good for him.
-
A $2k reward is now being offered for info leading to a suspect:
