Die Koelner Bierhalle siezed by the state for taxes

I walked by the Beer Hall and saw a locksmith replacing the locks and a police car parked in front.

Sorry - couldn't figure out how to rotate the images.

Woah thats wild! It was really struggling in terms of running efficiently for a while. I went one year for my birthday and our waitress disappeared shortly after taking our drink orders. Another waitress wound up having to our food orders yet refused to cash us out. The bartender also refused to and another waitress wouldn't call the manager. Eventually we grabbed the waitress who was serving us and basically told her either she would get someone to let us pay our bill or we would just leave without paying it. Suddenly magically the waitress who wouldn't call the manager was able to print us our bill.

But the last couple times I went, albeit months ago, it seemed to be doing better. I'm going to miss it they had wonderful beer and food! Albeit they never learned that currywurst is more then sausage covered in ketchup.
  • ...And as of today, those signs are down and someone's puttering about inside, hopefully draining the hoses of stale beer. No clue as to whether someone stepped in to pay the tax bill or what.

They have a tough uphill battle, that's for sure.
  • I went there once.  The service was terrible, and the atmosphere was stuffy and dark.  Neither was balanced out by the quality of the food, and you can find Gaeffel Koelsh in many places these days.  Never went back.

This is one half of former Der Schwarze Koelner partnership, right?
