I wrote this and logged it last year or the year before. I think it is worth repeating:Hello,
The following story was written by me. While the concept behind it is old, I copied from no one.
A CHRISTMAS STORY
(To keep all lawyers happy I will admit that much of this story is adapted from different author’s writings. I especially pay homage to Matthew, Mark Luke & John who gave us the original.)
Little Johnny came to his father in early December and said ”Daddy, some of the boys in my class said Santa is make believe and a fake!” I told them that I would ask you and then I would know the truth. Well Daddy, what is the truth.
Son, first let me ask you if you enjoy giving gifts to people at Christmas time. Well yes Johnny said, I like the look in their eyes and the happiness in their face when they open them. I know I made someone happy. Son, the beginning of the Christmas story started in a stable over 2000 years ago. The baby Jesus was born and people came from far & wide to pay homage to him. Three kings came and brought gifts of Gold and precious fragrances . Gift giving started way back then. Some time later people began giving gifts to each other to show their love and gratitude to others. In different countries the one in charge of the gift giving was called different names. There was St. Nicholas, Father Christmas and many others including Santa Claus. Now Mommy & Daddy know that Santa has an awfully big task to get all the presents that people want all in one night, Christmas eve. So Mommies & Daddies all over the world pitch in and buy gifts and become Santa’s helpers.
It is easy to say, like your friends, no, there is no Santa. But the spirit of Christmas has prevailed for over those 2000 years since Jesus was born. I for one am not going to take the chance of saying that spirit does not exist because I want to wake up on Christmas morning and find many of the gifts I hoped for!

Several years ago I said to myself "Wouldn't it be swell if I got to see the turn of the century (2000)." Tomorrow night I hope to see us turn to 2015. I have been able to see my Grandchildren grow up (Some in college, some already graduated). My next goal is to attend one (at least one) of my grandchildren's weddings. None of them seem in a rush to do so but who knows? HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL FROM THE OLDER GOAT IN FLORIDA.

Happy New Year!!!!! Let's welcome in 2015

Good Morning,
Well first snow of the season....so cold out!!! ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ -
Hello All in 2015. Amazing!
Weather-A little cool this AM but tomorrow into Thursday they are talking real COLD! COLD! COLD! Wind chill factors in the 20s & 30s. That may not be all that bad in some areas but in Florida it is just plain awful. Time to dig out my Bill Parcell's Giant sideline jacket with the hood and gloves! Today is easy. My only appointment is at the Cardiologist office to have my Pacemaker checked. Do not expect any problems there. (I hope). This morning we have fighter Jets flying overhead I guess heading into McDill Air Force base very close to here. I wonder if it is part of the group coming back from Afganistan? Good news on the East coast of Florida. Between the private company that will send up rockets this year, the Air Force plans on sending up many more. Maybe a lot of the people laid off from the NASA closing will get jobs back!!! Also it will help the tourist trade in the Canaveral area. -
Hi all
Brrr! Freezing out.
Going down to 9 or 10 degrees tonite!
Old Man Winter has arrived!
Stay warm & stay healthy.
-
Good morning, friends
Stay warm!!
Enjoy your weekend!!

Hello All,
The cold finally broke and this afternoon was pretty nice. I liked seeing the Cowboys beat but the rest of the playoff games had results I did not care for. I think the biggest disapointment in the playoffs was the officiating. I feel it left a great deal to be desired. I know that it is a tough job but these are supposed to be the best the NFL has to offer. I am reading a book on Baseball my son sent me for Christmas. Unfortuneately it was written by Roger Kahn. His knowledge of the Dodgers is for the birds. He only was assigned to them for a few years and yet he pretends to know all the inside info on Branch Rickey, Jackie Robinson, Walter O"Malley ( The rat) He knocks Dick Young and the Daily News every chance he gets. He worked for the Herald Tribune which was NOT a big seller in Brooklyn. The Daily News, NY Mirror, Brooklyn Eagle all sold more papers in Brooklyn in the '50's . Kahn made a fortune on "The Boys of Summer" and yet he only covered them a few years. Maybe I should write a book about Park Slope in the 50's. No, Too many arguments about where the slope starts and ends. -
Hey all.
Say Goat - remember the Long Island Press ?
And you are correct as the Herald and the World Telegram were not big sellers in God's Country back in the day. By any chance do you remember Charles Francis (Socker) Coe who wrote columns for the Telegram and for Saturday Evening Post ? He was a true Renaissance man who was a boxer, writer, radio announcer, columnist, reporter, Hollywood script writer, lawyer, business man, publisher, and scholar. A truly gifted human being.
Everyone have a wonderful week!
-
Sorry Prodigal Son. In my day It was the Brooklyn Eagle, Daily News. NY Daily Mirror, Journal American. In those Days the Post was considered too radical in the opposite direction from where they are today. The Saturday Evening Post was only read in the Doctor's Office. No, I never heard of Coe and never read the Telegram. We got the Eagle delivered to the house and about 9-10pm my Father would give me a nickel to go up to the corner candy store and get the early edition of the News and Mirror. They were 2 cents each and I got the penny for candy. My favorite Sports writers were Dick Young and Jimmy Powers. I forget who I read in the Eagle. I never heard of Kahn until he wrote "The Boys of Summer'. As Dick Young said "This guy Kahn followed the Dodgers for 3 years in the 40's and pronounced himself an expert on the Bums." The Robinson-Rickey book I am reading now is okay but some of his so called facts are suspicious.

Charles Francis "Socker" Coe in a radio show with Hall of Fame broadcaster Ted Husing:

Coe also wrote the book which was used as the basis for the famous movie "The Gay Bride" starring beautiful Carole Lombard:

As for Roger Kahn, if I recall correctly, I knew his works as an antiwar activist from the late 1960s. Like you, I do not recall him as a sports writer/commentator until he wrote that book in 1972.
Here's how folks can read the Brooklyn Eagle:

I have searched through these archives for information about East New York, especially its history as the cricket capitol of the USA and as the Mecca of American sports during the 1890s.
Dick Young was indeed a great sports writer. Any chance you remember Russ Harris who was the Daily News handicapper? He helped me win some money at Aqueduct and Belmont years ago.
Oh the memories!
-
No. Sorry. I did not read much about the races. When I was a kid Aqueduct was not even built. It was Jamaica & Belmont back then. Never was much into horses. The only thing I remember about East New York was a few dances we went to. I mostly remember Park Slope, Sunset Section, Park Circle, Flatbush, Coney Island & Bay Ridge. Throw in a little Red Hook for the pool and that is mostly where I spent my years. Our favorite activity was stick ball on my block which was 12th Street between 5th & 6th Ave. As I grew up I explored some of the City . I used to go to Manhatten on Sunday afternoon and go to Radio Programs like the Shadow, US Steel Hour, Junvenile Jury, Quick as a Flash etc:. During the summer it was Ebbetts Field or Park Circle for Baseball. That is when we were not playing stick ball!
-
Thanks for sharing those wonderful memories.Like you I had a great time playing stick ball though playing hard ball at Jefferson Sand Field on Pennsylvania & Livonia Ave was my fave game.Best to you & all in Brooklyn Back When ...

Hi Everyone,
Just relaxing on this very cold and rainy Sunday....
-
Good morning, friends
Hope everyone is well!
Enjoy your day!!
-
Hello All,
Very busy these days. Doctors appointments, Banking business, Luncheon, Party etc: Tonight I will be dispatching for our Security Patrol.
So New England cheated again. They have been caught cheating several times now. Of course the Giants have been able to beat them in the Super Bowl even with Belincheck and Brady's cheating crew!
To be frank with you Prodigal Son, I did not even know that Pennsylvania and Livonia avenues were in Brooklyn. I do remember going to Ralph ave to play
Golf on a course that was much bigger then Miniature Golf but not as big as a regular course. I think it was called a 3 par course.
Okay, you have put all your Holiday ornaments away, now dig our the Valentines & St Patricks day deco's.
-

Were put away!! Lol
Hope all is well
You've been busy.
That's good.
Say hello to Carol.

Howdy, Stranger!
