Is there really call from the public for hotels ? I know "short stay" hotels will be forever popular.

I am not sure what you mean by "short stay," but I, for one, am looking forward to a nice hotel or two in the area. If I'm not mistaking, the La Quinta Inn will be the first national hotel chain to arrive and will likely be the nicest one thus far.

Many of the existing "lower rent" motels and hotels have been converted into shelters for families.

So, there may now be unmet demand from people who are not broke, but seek a low rent room.

For example, someone who has been unemployed for the last 3 months and is staying in Brooklyn overnight because they have a important job interview tomorrow.

There is an existing hotel just west of Nostrand on Atlantic.

It is a chain of some variety. To my knowledge, it is not popular among those seeking a room for only 2 hours.

Ya...; no! That is not what I was thinking. I think we simply need a hotel to put people visiting the area - overflow family, wedding guests, etc.

Ah, yes! I think there are two meanings to the "short stay."

I would be ever grateful if there was a nice hotel, reasonably priced, to send my in-laws during the holidays. That will make the old 2-bedroom apartment doable for a few more years...

Airbnb is increasingly how out-of-towners are taking care of short stays:

I realize it's controversial in NYC for several reasons, but I've used it many times (7 different countries now) and believe it beats hotel stays in dozens of ways. I will never stay in a hotel again for non-work travel (for which I will also use Airbnb whenever possible).

A La Quinta would be nice. I had the pleasure of staying at one in Secaucus near the Meadowlands, its a really nice place.

But my comment is: That's interesting. In addition to the hotel @whynot_31 mentioned, by which I think he means the Best Western just east of Nostrand, there's an existing hotel on Atlantic between New York and Brooklyn, Hotel Luxe: http://www.yelp.com/biz/hotel-luxe-bedford-stuyvesant and http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60827-d5305555-Reviews-Hotel_Luxe-Brooklyn_New_York.html. That would make four hotels on a five-block stretch of Atlantic.

I saw that article, but I didn't see any mention of Crown Heights. I was expecting (read "hoping") talk of a Ritz coming to CH, corner of EP and Rogers...

There are tons of rumors about the armory, but I do not believe that one is more credible than any of the others. Hence, I have no news.

However, I do know this:
When the announcement is finally made, lots of media will cover it and every politician involved in the deal will state "this is a great deal for the residents of Crown Heights", while every politician NOT involved will state that the people have been sold out.
