Park Slope Manhole goes boom!

Did anyone see or hear the explosion on PPW and 4th Street? The Daily News is reporting that it was heard as far away as 12th Street & 7th Avenue.

In addition to getting knocked unconscious, it seems that the person injured also lost his dog, who was last seen running into the park. If anyone sees ab Black Lab running lose, please try to get help for him.

'tis the season for such tragedies.

For those new to a northern city: The salt that is put on the roads and the sidewalks gets into electrical infrastructure and eats the rubber insulation.

    It then goes boom.

Less dramatically, it causes stray electricity. This can shock people and dogs when they touch (or pee on) electrical manholes or things like lightpoles.

...getting hit by a manhole cover sounds like a really serious injury.

Edit: I hear Sean Casey found the dog, it was injured but as far as I know it's being cared for.

The people who's windows blew out are going to have a crappy night, I feel bad for them too.

A good super or handyman should be able to get some plywood over a window pretty easily.
