No-Shovel Public Shame List
Comments

@mamacita - About half of my walk to the train station looks like that (including the streets). The block best shoveled is the one with the nearby school. However, at least the area in and around the Prospect Park train station has been shoveled!
-
Flatbush Ave. has been really bad due to all the vacant businesses. On Saturday, I slipped and fell on the triangle at Park & Flatbush. Bruised my left arm and wrist pretty badly. Is there any point calling 311 for city property? The GAP subway station is always a mess, but the stairs yesterday were really dangerous. I had to hold on with two hands to make it down the first couple steps. I complained to the agent and he just shrugged. I started yelling at him and he claimed he would call someone.
-
@nicholas - Conditions at subway stations and bus stops should be reported to the MTA directly. 311 won't handle that. I submit complaints through their website (and include photos when I can).
-
Add to this list the 77th Precinct just off of Franklin Avenue. The walkway heading to the walkway / bridge is a slippery mess. Plus, no one has shoveled the bridge. Perhaps some rookie cops could put in some community building effort to do this.
-
I believe you are referring to the Transit Bureau Pct.
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/transit_bureau/district_32.shtml
It is on Carroll, just off Franklin.

If you mean on the south side of the street: BROOKLYN Block: 1189 Lot: 60 and BROOKLYN Block: 1189 Lot: 31 belong to the MTA; you'd have to report it to the MTA directly. 311 doesn't handle complaints regarding transit property. The bridge is called the "Carroll Street Pedestrian Overpass" on the tax map; that should be under the city's purview, no?The City does NOT clear access to automobiles, sidewalks, or driveways, even if the obstruction was caused by a City plow. -
President street btw Franklin/Washington, over the shuttle tracks. It is icy, and this repeats every year. A lot of kids and teenagers pass there every day on the way to/from school.
Seems like MTA doesn't really care. -
B65 Bus stop area at Washington and Dean. Also, the public space near the grand larceny/SVU precinct on Grand Avenue (this location is close to where Washington meets Grand); I slipped and nearly fell walking there today!
-
this is the wrong board for PH, but the corner of Vanderbilt & St Marks by the church is awful, and there is a thick patch of treacherous ice in front of 93 st marks ave. near Flatbush.
-
My perennial favorite, the lot on the southeast corner of Franklin and Bergen, is back to its old tricks. I'm not sure why they were proactive for the very first snow, but they are now letting Mother Nature clear up the snow for them. 311 has so far not been effective.
-
At what point should people give up on 311 and attempts to publicly shame? Then (to the delight of their neighbors), they could just pay Amazon to deliver Ice Melt, and throw it around.

Has anyone reported this to the MTA? I'm just curious.
Seems like MTA doesn't really care.
Seeing that there are *three* schools nearby, this lapse of shoveling seems egregious.
I guess Albany doesn't care about New York City.
-
Eh, more like highly apathetic MTA employees don't care.
-
One approach to take may be to get an investigative reporter involved and shame the property owner into action. The sidewalk in question is the Lincoln Road pedestrian bridge over the B/Q tracks at the Prospect Park station.
-
I slipped and fell on a massive patch of ice Friday night on the corner of New York ave and eastern parkway and landed on my knee and wrenched my other knee as I fell. Called 311 and went to the 71st precinct the next day to file a complaint.
My knee has been hurting for two days. -
I passed a flooded ramp at the corner of Prospect and Nostrand in front of the liquor store. Salvaged a piece of discarded molding and made a stream that connected the big pool of water to the drain. Now you can call me an engineer. In this melting weather borrow a shovel or ice chopper and donate your valuable services for the community good.

penguin walk
that looks just a bit hazardous -
It looks like the remainder of the ice and snow will melt this week, giving way to a new season:
Noise complaints regarding music.
Dirt bikes.
Pedestrian vs biker conflicts.
Backyards of restaurants so crowded it takes an hour to be seated.
I, for one, am completely ready for the change. -
Can we publicly shame people who jumped the gun and wore shorts today?
-
I doubt the site's rules prohibit it, but suspect that taking photos of people in shorts comes with its own risks.

"Don't go near the tracks for any reason".

So dangerous

From Gothamist:
Bros Can't Stop, Won't Stop Wearing Shorts In Freezing Weather.
"If we learned anything from The Dark Knight trilogy, it's this: you either die of hypothermia a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the kind of person who wears shorts in below freezing weather. It's been so cold out lately, we've broken temperature records; we've seen all of our rivers become ice barges; it's gotten so bad, we've even had to acknowledge that Boston exists just to feel a little better about ourselves. And still, some people insist on shoving their superior body temperatures into our faces—because some Bros just want to watch the world burn (or, in this case, shiver). "

Can we publicly shame people who jumped the gun and wore shorts today?
I saw someone stopped at an intersection on a bike, wearing shorts and a tank top, in the rain, rubbing his arms to warm up. Oh, the humanity! -
I bicycled home in shorts yesterday. You have to be flexible in your clothing choices with this weather. Layers are good.
Howdy, Stranger!
