The Great Sofa Hunt
I'm looking for the now-discontinued IKEA Manstad sofa—I have big dreams for it! Preferably, it'd be the version with the reversible chaise.
It seems that my Brooklyn friends all know someone who has one (or something similar), but they keep being sold/donated before I can get to the table!
You can check out what the sofa looks like here:
If you have one or know someone who does, I'd love to follow up! On Craigslist, they seem to go for $200–$400 or less, and that's probably my window as well.

Good luck finding ones that are still usable. I picked a used on up about 2 years ago when it became discontinued. When the bed part is pulled out the couch part that is usually on top of it is incredibly saggy. Any used one will have this problem. In your search, I would also keep an eye out for the Friheten, the sofa that replaced it, if nothing else because it may be listed under the new name. Both the old Manstad and the current Friheten have possibility of the chaise being installed on either side. But let me tell you, it's a huge hassle and you're not going to want to do a lot of taking it apart to shift.

Thanks for the info, @tateinbk! I was interested in the model with the reversible chaise, mostly just because it's the newer model, so I was thinking about longevity.
Do you think the issue of the seat sagging when the bed is out could be fixed/mitigated with some kind of additional reinforcement? I plan to reupholster whatever I end up getting, and might as well try to get in some extra support at the same time, if I can... -
@jtredway Keep in mind that both models have the reversible chaise feature. I do not think the seat sagging on the Manstad is reinforcable because the other part has to trundle into that space when it's being a couch. You only have the problem it's being a bed. But then all three different sections, the pulled out part, the main couch seat part, and the chaise have different degrees of sag. It makes for a weird sleeping experience. I would like the think the Friheten was created to address some of this problem but do not know for sure. My sister has the Friheten and so far it's holding up well. The couch is definitely on the firmer side.
