Broken cellphone scam — Brooklynian

Broken cellphone scam

Hey everybody,

I just had a rather scary run in with a scammer carrying a shovel. I was walking down Nostrand and this guy bumped into me. I didn't think anything of it and kept walking me. He yelled at me I turned around apologized and saw his cellphone was on the ground and shattered. He demanded that I pay him half of what he claimed it would cost. I apologized and he walked up and kept trying to get me to pay. He wouldn't leave me alone and walked beside me for four or five blocks. So I ducked into a store and he followed me in. I finally gave him $10 (stupid, I know) and ran out. I'm kind of afraid that he might have followed me to my building. Please be careful out there.

Also on a related note but does it seem to anyone else that the beggars are becoming more aggressive on Nostrand North of Atlantic?

  • The aggressive panhandelers are basically the reason I don't go north of atlantic on Nostrand, to be honest. It would be sad if they have become even more aggressive.

Seeing how one followed me for 5 blocks demanding money while brandishing a shovel; I'd say yes they are more aggressive these days.

although to be fair this guy was north of Eastern and south of Atlantic.  But I've seen a pretty sizable uptick there north of Atlantic.
