If I was going to open a food coop in Crown Heights, this is where I would put it. — Brooklynian

If I was going to open a food coop in Crown Heights, this is where I would put it.

643 Classon

My food coop would not require membership, and would have employees. Members would receive a discount and would either work shifts or pay an annual fee.

To keep costs down, I would specialize in dry goods.

  • Nice. Tell this to brooklyn movement collective. They've been working on a food coop for ch for like three years now.
  • I don't know the economics of food coops enough to actually recommend this space. The rent could be too high.

...but the location for such a use would rock.
  • There is an abandoned blue storefront/garage next to the laundromat on Franklin b/w Carroll and President. That might be a good space for a small coop. I wish something would happen with all the empty storefronts on that block. Anyone know the story of why they've been vacant for years? Lots of potential profit is being lost by the vacancies.
  • the greene hill food co-op is so close by though. just off grand and fulton.

For those on the south side of CH, there is the Lefferts Food Coop on Empire Boulevard.

I'll still go to the Flatbush Food Coop.
  • It would not surprise me if Crown Heights were to get some kind of coop within 5 years.

The M1 zone is perfect for it, because it prohibits residential use and is composed of lots of warehouses about this size.

....the food coop will likely show up somewhere else.   It feels like it is just a matter of time before one opens in Crown Heights
