804-806 St Johns is Coming Down
Workers started yesterday taking off the roof of the top structure and today have been stripping the bottom. They seem to be accessing the roof via 808, so possibly the building will take over three lots? This had been discussed in this, now closed thread: http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/38728/804-806-st-johns-for-sale-btwn-rogers-and-nostrand/p1. This comes just as I need to decide whether to resign my lease. What is worth listening to active construction for a year...

Why is this site not allowing me to post pictures?
-
1. Photos may be too large.
2. Site is sometimes a pain.
Email them to me. I will post. See your PM.
LoopnetIt sounds as if the long, single story building on the right of the photo will be torn down, as will the higher building to the left. In turn, we will get a pretty big residential building on the site.

Streetview shows it is a lovely block....

View from the back, looking toward St. Johns, from Tate:

Yes, you are definately going to gain noise and lose light over the next year.
Here's the demo permit: http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/JobsQueryByNumberServlet?requestid=2&passjobnumber=320981639&passdocnumber=01#FS -
Looks like we live in the same building Whynot.I'm pretty bummed, as I'm on the first floor and 90% of the light in my apartment comes in through the windows on that side

-
nevermind, you said "photo from Tate". So I live in the same building as Tate.
-
Whynot, can you tell from the permits how many stories this building will most likely be? Do you think they will fill in the alley as well? I'm just looking for your best guess as you seem to be able to decipher this stuff better than most of us here on the forum. Thanks!

I didn't see any approved building plans yet, just demolition.
I expect each of you to report every detail of this demolition and construction.
We promise we won't come over and visit. -
I guess the only perk of all the construction noise is it may block out the dogs barking in the yards of 810, 812, and occasionally the Weimaraners in 816. My sympathies you you @jfinks for living on the first floor. Are you friends with the super or Mike the Contractor to find out ahead of time if an apartment further up or in the front, becomes available?(ETA: who I am kidding, it will just cause the reactive dog in 810 to lose his mind barking)

Found this on streeteasy, not sure if there is any validity to it, but it says "

You and Mrs. Whynot can come over whenever.
I'm now off of work for a little while, and will have so much time to document the process. -
@tateinbk well, we just went through about 3 months of contractors remodeling the apartment directly above us, and we've heard people the last couple days checking it out. Don't think it would help us out too much to move one floor up.I think it is a great building, with great people, so I'd hate to move just because of this. At least we don't live right down the street where they are tearing down the gas station and theater to put way bigger buildings for the next couple years!

Happy f-ing Sunday. The workers have been going since 8:30am and the machines just started up at 9:39am. Aren't there laws about this sort of thing?

The building/s have been completely gone for a few weeks now, and it seems like they are much more into a construction phase now.I've been trying to get use to the constant reverse beeping sound of a backhoe and other large construction equipment but so far, no luck.... a bit of a pain in the rear since I work from home and my desk window is facing the construction site.I'll try to take a photo later, but Tate might have a better view being higher up in the building.
-
I do.
They are also building up on 808 which seems insane given how small the building is. The previous structures were basically taken down with 13 men and hand tools. At the very end they brought in a little Kobuta thing and a couple cherry pickers. Then a couple days ago the big backhoe came in and today is it's first real day. I'm a little concerned with how close the backhoe is digging to our building jfinks. Our windows could be really close to the back of the building.working

806 and 808 are now getting new foundations.
810 gained two stories.

-
Structure now fully enclosed. Interiors not ready yet

I've been told by neighbors this site is the source of the resurgence of rats in the immediate neighborhood. Has anyone else noticed a sizable increase in the rat population in the last year?I was told that construction will always cause this issue. I'm up on Sterling & Rogers and am unable to keep the rats out of the backyard or front yard.

This block has changed so much in the past 3 years.
-
Scaffolding now gone.

This block has changed so much in the past 3 years. At first I was sad about this building being so different than its surrounding neighbors. Then I looked back through the old Brooklynian posts, and I remembered that the actual building on this site was not exactly a beauty. So this is an improvement, on pure aesthetic grounds, I think.
