ULURP is meeting tonight. the Q at Parkside blog's creator has a petition going prior to the meeting that may interest some: http://theqatparkside.blogspot.com/2015/03/please-vote-in-lead-up-to-tonights.html

I'll be there to see what new tactics AB is going to take, as well as because I have nothing else to do this Monday night and there's nothing more fun than spending a few hours with AB :)
  • If you have fun, I am not sure you earn carbon credits.

...you may be able to trick karma by acting miserable.
  • When and where is tonight's ULURP meeting?  I am free so I may attend as a way to fulfill my masochistic tendencies.
  • Definitely, @whynot_31!

And @lilern, here's the information from the CB9 website:

    Date: March 16th, 2015

    Time: 7:00 pm

    Venue: Crown Gardens Community Room

Address: 1185 Carroll Street, Brooklyn, NY 11225 (Nostrand Avenue entrance)

  • And I'm here. Two video cameras so far.
  • And the police have arrived
  • And a third video camera.
  • Theatrics?
  • Many. Alicia escorted out by NYPD at 8pm. I'm leaving soon - my head can only take so much. I think I've fulfilled my masochistic needs for a while.
  • Yes, I left shortly after AB got dragged out (literally . . . she vowed to stay put in her chair and was grabbing her seat to prevent the NYPD from removing her) as I trusted the board to move on once the major distraction was removed.

Apart from her usual theatrics, which should be up on Youtube sometime soon, she was screaming about how "black people" need to "watch out" and "stop white people" from taking over the community with their plans as she was being carried/dragged out of the meeting room. In that sense, her language was more racially divisive and insensitive than normal.

    Sounds pretty normal for her.

BTW, one of her enemies (Eric Adams) continues to take what I consider to be a long, thoughtful view: http://www.citylandnyc.org/brooklyn-borough-president-adams-delivers-keynote-at-affordable-housing-forum/

He seems to reference her in his comments, but not directly.

    Video from the meeting:

MTOPP also has a petition going trying to have Tim Thomas removed from the committee and/or board.

Is it possible to have her banned from future meetings?

At least her Airbnb guests like her:

Whoever created Community Boards was a genius.

Local residents volunteer to be yelled at, which allows DCP and other entities to work on citywide interests largely undisturbed.

For those unaware, at the very end of the Mtg on March 16th, the ULURP Committee voted to submit a request for DCP, which the larger CB9 board then must approve before it is actually sent.

Needless to say, MTOPP members feel the ULURP board acted illegally, as do several members of the board and the audience. This whole drama plays out again tonight.

And, now we break for a word from our sponsor, Ozzy Osbourne. He discusses the Crazy Train:

  • Looking forward to the meeting tonight!
  • I believe that each side is correct in perceiving tonight as the apex of the past year.

    I plan to attend.

To be safe, I have asked a friend if I can borrow his bomb suit:

    https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&q=bomb+suit&gbv=2&oq=bomb+suit&gs_l=img.3..0l10.958.2472.0.2908.9.8.0.1.1.0.78.486.8.8.0.msedr...0...1ac.1.34.img..0.9.501.dTLVh5KgHaA

  • That may come in handy, if only to protect yourself from AB's verbal abuse.
  • I have a feeling that we may see new tactics from each side tonight.

Or, at least that is my hope.
  • 7:23 the mtg begins. I am seated in the front on the left.
  • Checking in for the live blog of this meeting.

About 200 people here. So far, we have the usual sniping between AB and the board.

We are presently hearing about the Flatbush Trees, which is the first agenda item. A fifth grade teacher is leading the tree project. His students are in photos.

AB allowed him to speak uninterrupted, and we have moved on the Parkside Plaza, presently a barren place in front of the Parkside Q entrance.

It will soon be a sitting, social, green place. Construction is happening now.

Each of these speakers has been given adequate time to present and answer questions.

The mtg is now discussing whether the board should provide comments on a recent text revision by DeBlasio to the zoning rules re: the definition of "contextual zoning".

If CB9 chooses to comment, it would do it thru a ULURP mtg.

Passover presents a challenge to scheduling said mtg in a timely manner, because CB9 has a large orthodox community.

So far, this mtg is not going badly....

However, the decision to submit a request to DCP is coming soon.

In light of how the ULURP committee held its vote, it seems that the Exec Committee voted to send the request back to ULURP, so we won't have a vote tonight.

Attendees are now concerned that there is no way they could decide on a request for a study, AND create a response to the Mayor's recent edits before the comment period ends.

...because one single ULURP mtg could not achieve both.

We are now commenting on whether a request should be created.

Here is the line of people who want to comment:

    image

It is not clear to me why attendees want to comment. In my view, everyone's views are known. Agreement is not going to be reached through more conversation and comments.

Those who are opposed to the request, are not going to change their minds based on wording.
  • Some of the anger is directed toward Tim Thomas, who is seen as main proponent of the request.

His opponents want him removed, or at least not reappointed to the board.

8:54 comments end. We now enter the Business Section of the mtg, some believe that CB9 will somehow vote on sending the request, so they are staying while others are leaving.

Note, this mtg is supposed to end at 9:00.

9:25. We are still here. The board is trying to figure out how it is going to appoint a new chair and secretary.

To my surprise, they found enough people that willing to on a nominating committee (a min of 5, a max of 7).

They may need to have two elections. One to fill the vacant seats, another to find people to do this next year.

Summary: This was not an apex, this was redux. There is no end in sight.
  • Great rundown! I left right as the business session was finally getting underway. Apart from a few minor hiccups, I think that Laura Imperiale handled herself very well (from dealing with the camera guy with the bright light immediately before the meeting to making sure that AB was as well-behaved as possible, which was her biggest achievement of the night). Certainly an improvement on meeting management than has been the case. Also, major props to Laura for appointing an interim parliamentarian right as the meeting started (that's rather elementary and should've been done sometime in the last 30 years that the Board did not have one).

Apart from and in addition to what whynot_31 mentioned, I think a lot of the criticism directed at Tim Thomas is hogwash. And I don't believe he's a prejudiced man in the slightest. Still, he has to be careful about what he posts online, even if it is in jest (for instance, his remark about AB's jaw breaking was, while funny, arguably inappropriate/unbecoming for someone of his position; all of the other criticism was completely ridiculous in my view, and I have no problem with what he wrote/writes on his blog). I just hope that BP Adams doesn't let mob justice prevail and reappoints Tim.

There was also some back and forth between the MTOPP crowd, a black CB9 member and Rabbi Jacob Goldstein over what Goldstein perceived as an unfair attack on the Jewish members of the board regarding meeting times.
