Full disclosure: I voted for her and I think she does bring some good things to the table, but some of these comments really just leave me shaking my head. Given that she's undoubtedly trying to be careful with what she says, I can only imagine where she really stands/what she really thinks when it comes to some of these issues. In an increasingly diverse neighborhood you really can't afford to alienate entire ethnic/religious groups if you hope to get reelected.

I hope she merely needs to understand how many people are on the list, and how the process works, before she actually alleges illegal preferences are in play:

Likewise, I hope she understands that (after knowing the above) if she still believes fraud is involved, the DOI is the best place to call. Asking the Commissioner at an open meeting isn't the way to go.

She is upset because Chinese families have needs too and she has promised her black constituents preferential treatment in public housing. How many families has she tried to use influence over to get tinto NYCHA housing. She does not fully understand the system.

Unfortuanately the whole system is failing everyone. With these numbers of families who are in desperate need of housing, s ome for many, many years, no wonder crime is a problem in our city. We need to have more affordable for low and middle income families not luxury highrises. It is a BIGGGG problem. Laurie Combo just exacerbates the problem.

Her constituents that are raising the issue and Ms Cumbo who shamelessly brings it up in a public meeting would rather not have non English-speaking Asian people around Blacks and Hispanics in public housing. It's really that simple.

Pardon me but while *she* might be more complicated, the piece you posted didn't even attempt to add any nuance to her racially inflammatory remarks about persons living in public housing that happen to be Asian. What it did say, and only as a general matter, is that she doesn't want residents to get left behind by the forces of gentrification (read: black and brown people). What that has to do with non English speaking Asians I can't imagine but maybe you posted the wrong article?
