  • hahahaa, great analogy.  unfortunately this might leave him/her waiting a LONG time for who knows...American Apparel, Duane Reade, GAP?  Also, isnt there some organization that creates pop-up art galleries in vacant spaces that could use this?  It's a great space for showcasing work from local artists.  Not sure what it takes (org talks to owner and agrees on a token rent per month plus it makes the space look more inviting than dark/vacant).

Breaking News update:   The landlord has finally agreed to a renter.   He will receive $12,500 a month for 10 years.

A bagel store will occupy the entire space: The storefront, as well as the rear section.

It will be comparable in size and quality to Ye Olde Bagel Shoppe on Vanderbilt, and/or Bergen Bagels:

-Lots of bagel and cream cheese options.

    -Bagels made on site.
    -Indoor seating.

  • Wow! I am pleasantly surprised be this. I thought this would be a great space for something like this. Thank goodness it won't be a restaurant!!! I look forward to be woken up by the smell of fresh bagels..
  • Wow! That is fantastic! But a lot of bagels to sling to make that rent...

    Yup.

This place will have to be as busy as Bergen Bagels or Ye Old Bagel Shoppe to make ends meet.

    Expect prepared foods and delivery.

Please note that the name of the entity is not yet known, but I speculate that the landlord has not settled for an entity that does not have several other locations.

This isn't going to be someone with a mere $1M who work up one day and decided they wanted to open a bagel store...

Readers may not be aware that commercial landlords are not limited by law re: how much a deposit they can require. I'd love to know how much of a deposit they were required to put down.

  • Kind of a bummer for Nagel's Bagels, eh? Though this sounds like they will be much better able to accommodate the bagel-seeking masses.
  • Sweet! I love Nagel's (especially their whitefish--really good), but when you want a quick bagel in the morning, that's not the place to go. In fact, they get their bagels from Ye Olde, and it might take just as long Nagel's to prepare it as it would to walk from Franklin to Vanderbilt.
  • For the heck of it, I am going to predict a 7 month build out and DOH approval process.

    Grand Opening March 2016.
