I can not recall the last shooting that took place in Mount Prospect Park, or in front of the museum.

NYPD is stating one of the teens was shot 5 times, and that the suspects are also believed to be teens.

If this group had a permit, I suspect they won't get one in the future.

....which is kind of a shame. Adults will be held responsible for the actions of teens they did not parent.

In many shootings, no one parented the teens....

It's a shame that a few bad apples managed to spoil things for a whole bunch of people (while some of those looking in tend to blame indiscriminately everyone who was there).

In an attempt to keep those most likely to be disruptive/violent out, many groups have resorted to ticketed events.

A fee allows them the resources to hire security, search bags, etc.

BBQing and coolers are often the first victims.

I think everyone is intelligent enough to understand that it's just a few bad apples. However, look around the world; a few bad apples, particularly when they yield disproportionate power and/or make disproportionate noise or issues, ruin it for everyone involved. Such is life. Happens in countries, religions, communities, bars, etc. all the time.

The best answer is to remove the "cancer" and make a big scene doing so in order to highlight to everyone the obvious, that this is not acceptable and will not be tolerated by their fellows. This can be done by planning and working with others (e.g., police) or self policing (e.g., a bouncer, having staff wearing bright yellow T shirts making sure no one is up to trouble, etc.) using volunteers.

The events that WIADCA sponsors have such qualities. They happen every year behind the Brooklyn Museum, run about $25, and last until around midnight.

It would not surprise me if whatever org threw this event in the park had no such experience.

If you are going to throw a free event, that does not have security, it is a good idea to have it end before it gets dark. Make it unattractive to people prone to ruining it....
