To General Mngr. of Slope Fitness
Dear General Manager of the Slope (I know the staff reads the boards),
There are like 30 new TV's in the place now, but it's a worthless system. Not all the TV's on the treadmills work and the ones that do only get 2 or three channels (TV 1, TV 2, TV 3 and sometimes they are all playing the same show). I understand that the Slope got some kind of deal with Dish Network. That's good for you but we can't watch the variety of channels we used to. Can you at least check on this and try to figure something out. Thanks.

You might have more luck speaking with them directly.....Or, do they have a suggestion box?

Flexi, I did actually mention it to the night crew in a lighhearted way. In fact, we all pass the messages along; the managers work during the day. Being more direct might help. No telling what became of the suggestion box

Subject: t.v. channel selection
GiGi,
If your only complaint about the club is that you don't get the selection of channels that you want on the treadmills, then the club must be doing o.k.
I love the new t.v.'s and the selection of channels hasn't changed on the flat screens. I rarely watch the t.v. any way, because I want to work out.
May I suggest that you watch the screens on the walls if you want more selection.
I also heard that this system is the same that they have at Equinox and Health & Racquet. -

Well...tvs are supposed to be part of the package when you join. When I was looking at gyms I decided I could either spent that $79/month on cable, or I coudl spent it at the gym where they had cable TV. If I wanted to just exercise without watching crummy TV then I'd go run in the park.

Not the tiniest bit depressing, and certainly not as depressing as trolling an internet board, but thank you for your misguided concern. -

I had the same problem. The workers try to help, but the TV system seems too complicated.

If it weren't for being able to watch TV at the gym, I would never work out.

Yeah, that was obnoxious. I love running in the park. That's why, when I run on a treadmill, which I hate, I like having a TV screen to look at--because it's otherwise so boring compared with running outside.
Regardless, if a gym charges for TVs, it should provide working TVs. The membership fee is not a penance charge for not being so attuned to nature as Guest. -

I've been running in the park if I can make it out before 8. After that I don't feel comfortable running alone and head to the gym. I do prefer running outside but a lot of factors (rain, extreme humidity) sometimes make it difficult and if I have to be stuck inside on a treadmill I want to be distracted from treadmill boredom.

Yup, that's my only complaint. I like the gym very much. I am a treadmill user and it's hard to read the flatscreens from the back row. And again, the choices are limited to 2 or 3 channels on the treadmills. But according to your post, I must be missing something then b/c I didn't realize that you can get any channel on the front line equipment.

Agreed. Guest's post is obnoxious (how convenient that the odious post comes from someone unregistered...). The tv is a major part of my workout routine... I can't run outdoors (bad knee) and I don't like running to music. Access Hollywood puts me in just the right frame of mind (read: blank) to allow me to run my 5 miles twice/week.
For the record, Equinox has a full complement of around 20 channels. -

So you have to be registered in order to be taken seriously? And what's so obnoxious about saying that the t.v. system is the same?
For the record, Equinox has a full complement of around 20 channels.
By the way those t.v.'s get over 20 channels as well.
it's obnoxious and elitist. Not at all Park Slope. -
I'm pretty sure obnoxious refers to the guest who wrote "How depressing is your life." which is pretty obnoxious.
As for registering, this board does not require it (a policy I disdain) but many users will not take an unregistered user as seriously as a registered user, they lack the credibility (or lack thereof) of someone who has posted, dozens, hundreds,or thousands of times. -

I was talking about the "how depressing is your life" comment, not the number of channels.

I'm not sure what you mean by your final comment "it's obnoxious and elitist. Not at all Park Slope."
And, yes, if you register, we'll take obnoxious comments much more seriously. -
