Fish Fish opens

So it looks like Fish Fish Mo Fish (stupidest name) is open. It's been pretty empty when I've gone by. What do you think? 6 months before they close?

    However, I have witnessed no fanfare or publicity.      The space was held for so long before it opened that I suspect they don't have an exit plan in their lease. 

  • I actually hope it does well.  I haven't been there yet, but it's nice to have another dining option on the Avenue.
  • I've never seen a place so doomed. 

    The crazy thing is, they probably wouldve had more customers if they were on Kingston.  But instead, they're paying vanderbilt rent to exist on a street where no one passing by has ever considered eating fried fish.  And nobody is making any assumption the catch is fresh or organic or whatever the other things are we love to eat. 

    I do have a tip for these guys though...
    Call it Fish and Chips!  We know about that one, and once in a while we think we're in the mood for it. 
  • They might have a chance of survival if they reached out to the workers constructing Pacific Park.
  • Hmmm...I wonder if the portions are any larger than Crabby Shack on Franklin. I'll be checking this place out.
  • I went there with a buddy for dinner a couple of weeks ago.  The food was good and it was cheap, but on so many levels it doesn't seem like a good fit for the neighborhood - possibly ANY neighborhood - unless they get some very basic issues fixed.  I hope I'm wrong, and I hope they do, because everyone there was totally friendly and genuinely seemed happy to see us.  I will probably stick to take out for now.

    No booze, not even beer.  (In fact, the only drinks - even water - come from a refrigerated display off in the back hallway.)  Only basic cable, no sports.  Two bad signs for a "Sports Lounge".  I walked by yesterday and saw no one drinking and CBS was on the two big screens, so I am assuming they still haven't worked that out.

    I realize it just opened, but the place is still a bit of a mess.  Not as nice as Mitchell's even.  Combined with the lack of beer and TV, the lack of atmosphere isn't particularly encouraging to hanging out and eating in.

    Say what you will about fried (and baked?) fish, but the place did get a lot of people coming in to check it out while we were there.  Serving sizes were large and it has a nice family-run vibe, but it's a far cry from the gourmet and artisinal vibe of the other places.  Maybe that's the strategy and I hope it works, but I hope more that they get a beer license, some metal silverware, and SNY.
  • On a general note, the items on this placard sound appetizing. 
    On a funny note, some one took my advice for item no. 1!   So fair's, fair, I have to go try it now.  If I can, I'll swing by tonight.
