No permits, so perhaps the owner is fixing up some things in order to rent?
-
This seems to be the firm that manages/owns the building: http://www.jwasser.com/
However, I could not find any info about the space on the web.
However, I did find...
The Brooklyn Eagle seems to indicate that in 1926, part or all of 810 Nostrand was a bakery:
"German-English speaking preferred, for bakery 810 Nostrand av"
http://bklyn.newspapers.com/newspage/59870698/ -
According to the NYT, in 1919, 810 Nostrand seems to have hosted a general contractor business:
"Hiram H. Bush. 810 Nostrand Av.
Builder and general contractor, absolutely
reliable; can save you money"
http://www.mocavo.com/The-New-York-Times-November-1-15-1919-Volume-Lxix/492579/296 -
Storefront has now been made into a "white box", ready for even the most unskilled tenant.

-
Art gallery. It would be kind of great to get an art gallery here.
-
The question is....are people going to just go in and look or are they going to buy.
-
I might put a postal place there, for all of the people who can't get packages (ie Amazon) delivered to their building or workplace.
-
UPS store is open and operating on Bergen (and UPS is already dropping undeliverable packages there). Its going to be hard to compete with that.
-
It is the right size and location for a coffee shop, but it would compete with Lula.
-
It would be a great location for a fancy nail salon. Like, a really fancy one with a spa-like environment. I'm thinking the ambiance of Honey on Vanderbilt.
-
I have the scoop via Mike De Zaya's website, http://crownheights2020.com/. 810 Nostrand Avenue will become "810 Wine and Whiskey," an upsale wine and spirits store. The website does not have any additional information on whether this is a 100% de Zayas production, or if it is in more of the partnership model a la Deck Salon. So, exciting. And I think that space is going to be good for a wine store.
-
I'm interested in seeing how long it takes him to get permits.

There already is a postal place across the street
-
I wonder how the wine store on St Johns Place and Nostrand will react?
-
Does it have bullet resistant plexiglass throughout?
...810 Wine and Whiskey seems like it will be a boutique place that closes reasonably early, and does most of its business when people are returning home from work.
BTW, Fresh Direct now delivers wine and liquor.
-
Hm, that deZayas website also mentions this - which sounds too good to be true. Anyone heard any rumors about it? I remember that in the beginning, two saints was supposed to have a theater in its basement.

-
I saw that, and it has a very similar description to Global Square:
Despite receiving an influx of cash from the City Council, Global Square remains stuck. So, I have reached out to them to see whether they are becoming Intermission.
-
Greetings (Global Square)-I've been watching the Dean St project for a while. Is it still progressing? Is it becoming something called "Intermission"?Thanks(whynot)Dear (whynot)-The project has been delayed indefinitely. Intermission is not connected with Global Square.Warmly, gsquare
...so, the two things are not related and we will see if Intermission suffers a fate similar to Global Square, or become a huge success. -
People inside 810, working!
-
Here's a scoop -- "Simple Syrup," a contemporary gifts store, will open at 810 Nostrand Ave TOMORROW, December 1. There is an opening night party scheduled. It looks like this will be a pop-up store and then the fancy wine/liquor store will open in Spring 2016 (I bet that is when a liqour sales license will come into effect).
-
That location does have lots of foot traffic.
...a popup makes sense.
-

Mike D confirmed that he hopes to keep the space filled with various popup stores until a license for a liquor store is obtained.
Said liquor store will be tentatively named Simply Syrup.
-
Huh. To my knowledge, CB8 has not yet been asked for their support.
-
I wonder if the SLA will bother to look for proof he went in front of the CB.
BTW, here is a link to Two Saints, also run by the same firm.
-
Sounds hoity toity.
-
Do you think it will be as hoity as Winot (located at Franklin and Lincoln)?
...the space is about the same size. -
The De Zayas empire is expanding quite quickly. Soon he'll have 3 bagel shops in roughly the same neighborhood.
Howdy, Stranger!
