CB8 Merchants kick off their holiday Shop Local campaign

I am optimistic it will be more lively than their campaigns in previous years. We shall see...

  • Not yet. I hope they at least get their act together to the degree that they list their members, by service provided.

....in prior years, they simply implored people to "shop local" without coherently telling people what was available, or -um- where.

The merchant associations located in CB9 have a similar effort underway.

Despite the chaos that often characterizes CB9, the merchants associations located within the geographic area seem to do a better job than those located within CB8. cb9

Once again, the merchants of CB9 pull ahead, with more than 160 businesses participating:

"Participating businesses will post red balloons outside their shops and posters in their windows advertising specials and discounts offered for three days: Nov. 28, Dec. 12 and Dec. 13, said Pia Raymond, member of CB9’s economic development committee and organizer of the effort."

  • Wow. Puts CB8 to shame. I think there are like 6 businesses repped in CB8, most of which are not selling giftlike items.

In past years, the merchant associations with CB9 have also marketed themselves to local residents far more effectively than those located within CB8.

    -turkey giveaways

    -coat and canned good drives

    -appearances by Santa

    -holiday lights

-postcards advertising the campaign, for those who don't use the web as often

    -etc

  • Is there a list anywhere of the 160 participating businesses in cb9?
  • Not that I am aware of.

It seems to be just the active members of the Nostrand Ave Merchants Association, and the Flatbush Ave Merchants Association.

.... While more organized than CB8, I fear they are not doing enough to adapt to the Amazon demographics.
