Ooooh la la!3...2...1....researching this!

I'm curious, what did they have to agree to get CB8 support
Do they have close at midnight?Did they promise that their bartenders will tutor neighborhood high school children during the day? Will all their drinks be fro-yo based? -
I believe he stated he would comply with the regular CB8 stipulations:Close before 2AM on weekend nights, and before midnight on the other nights.I believe the upstairs tenant spoke in support of the application.
I didn't hear anything about having to cure social ills. He will, however, have to endure Landmarks in order to get building permits ...because the sign that says Vanderbilt is brown. In other news:- The space is about 1400 sq ft, and has a lot of improvements already in place.
- It is next door to an existing bar, Woodwork.
- If approved by SLA, the venue will have the use of the backyard.
-
oh good, just the other day i was thinking how these 2-3 blocks of vanderbilt dont have enough bars.
-
I predict it will be a while before your thoughts become reality.
Given:
- the special hearings required as a result of being so close to an existing bar.
-the fact that he has to work with Landmarks
-the fact that he has never operated or created a bar before
I estimate that this will open Fall 2015, at the earliest. -
I wish him luck...
-
Tygershark, lol. I think I saw that and Sharktopus on the SYFY channel this weekend.
-
Just adding a link to the pending permit:
http://www.trans.abc.state.ny.us/servlet/ApplicationServlet?pageName=com.ibm.nysla.data.publicquery.PublicQuerySuccessfulResultsPage&validated=true&serialNumber=1280570&licenseType=OP
Nothing to see here folks, move along... -

As a result of the property being located within the PH historic district, Mr. Hwang must not only file an application with the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, but must also appear before CB8's Housing Committee to explain what he wants to do:
a. The interior renovation of the space for use as a restaurant
b. Replacement of the existing non-historical storefront with a new glass and painted metal frame storefront
c. Retention of historical cast iron columns
d. Replacement of non-historical windows on the rear facade with glass and painted metal frame doors and windows
e. Addition of mechanical equipment to roof with duct extending along rear facade

Rendering from above link:

I believe we should now estimate when the above rendering will be reality and NYS grants an Alc lic.
Above, I was a pessimist and estimated Fall 2015. Being that he has the means to hire an architect, I'll revise my estimate to April 2015. Any other estimates?
-
Late January: Construction appears to be continuing.
-
That is a fine looking shark. Has anyone been able to look in when they have the plywood door open?
April 2015 only has 7 days left in it. I may have been more correct if I had stayed with my Fall 2015 estimate. -
The shark now says "summer 2015"
-
Has anyone been to Tygershark? I passed by the place yesterday and it was OPEN. It has a coffeeshop setup up front and a bar in the back....it looks pretty cool.
-
First Yelp review is 10/11/2015, which makes sense because the alc lic became effective back on 10/1/2015.Usually bars open right afterward.

This writer for the Village Voice seems to like it: http://www.villagevoice.com/restaurants/korean-food-with-surfer-tude-at-tygershark-in-prospect-heights-8393872

went once. very uncomfortable seating. no backs on the seats and hard wood. don't take cash. price point on the high side.fusion style may not appeal to most.
-
We went for brunch not long ago. The price point is high and the portions are not that large but everything we had was exceptional. Uniquely flavored and well prepared. I'm sure we'll be back but likely more for special occasions than anything else.
-
Wait, they don't accept cash? Is that true?
-
They seem to be rebranding. (photo not by me)
