The heights?
-
definitely aerosmith's "love in an elevator". that's simply a no-brainer. a close second would be a song that i wrote called "franny and the beast (someone from nymetro must live in the area because otherwise i don't understand the stellar reviews)". it sounds best when sung a capella.
-
Pretty Fly by Offspring. Btw, I listened to you Aug 8th show....work on it fellas.
-

I'm hearing this in my head now, sung to the tune of "benny and the jets" ...
Radio 349, I haven't listened to your show yet, but your avatar is very amusing. -
This is a tough question, but I find that the Benny Hill theme song works in just about any situation.
-
Feels so good by Joe Mangione. Was it Joe? Too lazy to google (2L2G).
-
"Disillusion" by Badly Drawn Boy.
-
"Losing My Edge" by LCD Soundsystem
-
Since this neighborhood has captured my heart, where the love of my life was born and raise and where I plan on dying I think My First, My Last My Everything by Mr. Barry White
For the ladies of PH of course there is no other song but Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison
-
Eminance Front, the Who (for Ratnerscapades).
Pickin' Boogers, Biz Markie (he does, after all mention the D train).
Parklife, Blur (because it's not about you joggers who go round and round).
Givin' the Dog a Bone, AC/DC (particularly if said bone is poisoned by a crazy lady first). -
"Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service.
-
"Park Slope" by Pumpkinhead.

It's called "Yakkity Sax". -
In honor of the timeless themes in this forum:
- Click Clack - Slim Thug/Now I Gotta Wetcha - Ice Cube
- Ayo for Yayo - Andre Nickatina (dedicated to young snitch--I maintain this is the correct spelling of that word)
- Louder Than a Bomb - Public Enemy
- Cuts Like a Knife - Rockwell
- Let's Plan a Robbery- Three 6 Mafia
- Kill Whitey-Eminem/When Will You Be Mine - Average White Band
- Whole Lotta Weed-Project Pat
And a (crappy) song about gentrification:

Yakkity Sax is my cellphone ring
-
Oooh ooh, "Respiration" by Black Star.
-
yeah, i'd say that's the proper americanized version. i think both work, although neither is as classy as saying coke-i-eena.
on said themes:
"gunshot" - vybz kartel
"the corner'" - clipse remix, not common's
"stick you" - c.n.n.
"everything is broken" - bob dylan
and, of course, fear of a black planet. -
To me it depends on the weather and season.
Lazy Spring Morning: Yes, We Have No Bananas - Louis Prima
Cold rainy fall day: Jolene - White Stripes
Very hot heavy-traffic summer day: Niko/VU - Femme Fatale
Before Christmas: The Future - Leonard Cohen -
well.. it never really reminded of Prospect Heights particularly. But my favorite Brooklyn song of all time, hands down:
Gangstarr "The Place Where We Dwell"
"take the J train, the D or the A if ya dare,
...and the 2/3/4/5 also comes here" -
"Busting up a Starbucks," Mike Doughty... had this been posted in the PS forum, his "Thank You, Lord for Sending Me the F Train," would have been perfect.
-
um...some songs about the ghetto...
-
More general Brooklynity than PH, really, but...
"Flyin' High in the Brooklyn Sky" by Digable Planets
"Brooklyn Queens" by 3rd Bass
"Brooklyn Zoo" by Ol' Dirty Bastard
"Where Brooklyn At" by Notorious B.I.G.
"No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn" by the Beastie Boys -
songs actually about brooklyn:
"where i'm from" - jay-z
"bucktown" - smif n wesson
"crooklyn dodgers"
"crooklyn dodgers II"
"brooklyn" - mos def
"brooklyn's in the house" - cutmaster dc
"the planet" - gangstar
"brooklyn kids" - jemini the gifted one -
Best song? The logical answer is the greatest pro-gentrification song of all time. You guessed it, "Time To Change", by the Brady Bunch.
ALL TOGETHER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sha na na na, na na na na, sha na na na na
Autumn turns to winter and then winter turns to spring,
its not just a season you know its goes for everything.
clouds can turn to rain and then it just might snow
You gotta take lesson from mother nature and if you do you'll know.
[chorus]
When its time to change
then its time to change
move by the time come along for the ride, dont you see
when its time to change you've got to rearrange
move your heart to what your gonnabe.
sha na na na na na na sha na na na na na
day by day its hard to see the changes you've been through
a little bit of living a little bit of growing all adds up to you
every boys a man inside
a girls a women too
and if you wanna reach your destiny here's what you've got to do
[chorus]
When its time to change
then its time to change
move by the time come along for the ride, dont you see
when its time to change you've got to rearrange
move your heart to what your gonna be.
sha na na na na na na na, sha na na na na na
[chorus]
Well its time to change
then its time to change you've got to rearrange
move your heart to what your gonna be.
sha na na na na na na na, sha na na na na -
"time to change" is an excellent selection.
the one that really works for me is "all lit up" by buckcherry. -
What?! No mention of Susanne Vega? Come on, guys. Disappointing.
Anyway. A new Brooklyn song I like is "Sister" by Jennifer O'Connor. It starts off "N train, coming home..." -

If you're referring to "Tom's Diner," I think that there's a debate as to whether she's talking about the Tom's on Washington Ave or the one near NYU. -
Isn't the deabte between the Tom's on Washington and one near Columbia, not NYU?
-
