     they still know where to go.

    Here are some of their comments:

    "It is so wrong to bring bike lanes on Sterling or St. Johns Place. It sometimes takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to get a parking spot. To go to the post office you have to double park & pray that you don't get a ticket. The people suggesting these need to see how difficult it is for us residents; appose to the money aspect from the merchant. It's wrong & its sad. I come from work at 5:00 pm and can't get a parking spot until 5:30 -6:00; & still have to go prepare dinner for my family. My son has to start his homework in the car while we wait for parking. Bikes lanes are so wrong"

    "Bike lanes have been causing accidents . Bike lanes are not used enough to incontinence drivers"




  • Thankfully they're not used enough to "incontinence drivers". I'd hate to get a sudden case of IBS while I'm looking for a parking spot at my office which is on St. Johns.

    Yes, that comment is my favorite.

    ... some die hard bike riders might love it if bike lanes had that effect on car drivers.

  • It is strange that people complain about parking spaces when the DOT is too timid to remove parking spaces to stripe narrow lanes on the narrow sections of St. John's— in fact, there is no effect on parking at all from this project.

    They're just narrowing oversized lanes where they exist, and adding sharrows on narrow sections.

    While you are right that this project won't eliminate any spots, I'm continually amazed that drivers continue to believe that parking should be easy and free.

    ...that is a losing battle.

  • Bike lanes will be great for the neighborhood. And safer. Maybe we could get street cleaning just one day a week on each side.

    As a result of not owning a car and not commuting via bike, bike lanes don't create strong feelings in me.

    The strongest feeling that I end up having, is wondering why people believe that their individual or collective opinion is valued on such matters.

  • I think bike lanes help promote intra-borough transportation.  I like to think of Brooklyn as a collection of small towns and connected communities.  I think car traffic can feel soul less - passing through, zooming through neighborhoods... anything to slow traffic, promote awareness of bikers seems like a good idea.
  • I think most drivers have an awareness of bicycles and motorcycles when we're able to see them. It's when they cut in and out between cars, run red lights and don't ride safely that most accidents occur. Anything to make the roads safer for all who use them is a good idea even if it does slow down traffic. After all, the average speed in Manhattan is about 8 mph so I think many drivers are used to not being able to do the 25mph speed limit.
