Oh this is good news! I had assumed it was going to be a vape shop. Maybe I should have checked the url.
-
I assumed that at first as well. BTW, this shop is going to be small. They might have space for a few stools in the front, but this is going to mostly be a take out and delivery venue.
-
I bet there'd be even more confusion if that "You'll love what we're smoking" sign went up on that corner in the early 90s, with an arrow pointing to a nondescript door.

NY still has a few years until marijuana dispensaries are widespread.
-
The Prospect Patch did a little more digging and determined this Urban Smoke location will be one of three in the area: http://patch.com/new-york/prospectheights/opening-prospect-heights-fancy-bbq-joint-urban-smoke

Longterm readers may remember that the Mexican food chain Oaxaca expressed an interest in this location, but then didn't open when the learned that Nacho Macho had leased the space next door to them.
It seems they kept the lease, and are now going to operate the new BBQ place that is opening. They are expanding their company...

The prices actually seem pretty reasonable. Will try if they're still around when I visit Brooklyn again.
-
I suspect they have some staying power. The location is part of a reasonably large chain, and has some expertise at running small "mostly take out" restaurants.
-
Ouch, that was less than 8 months.
-
The Oaxaca owners just don't understand this stretch of Prospect Place. They had a Oaxaca store in the current Guero's storefront. Unlike Guero's, they couldn't stay open for more than a year - was it even eight months?I wonder if another successful takeover occurs at this Urban Smoke location. Seems too small a storefront, but who knows.
-
I might make it a small real estate office. ...just a place for people to meet you before you walk them to local apartments. The block is changing: http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/comment/572147#Comment_572147
